A WOMAN was fined $7,000 on Tuesday for helping an Australian-registered doctor to practise here without a licence. Ong Yoke Chooi, 48, who pleaded guilty, had referred a woman customer to Malaysian Ong Hean Chye alias Alan Ong, 61, for cosmetic procedures when he was not registered here. The offence took place at Bioscor International (Singapore) at Ngee Ann City Tower B on April 23, 2007. Both Ongs, who are not related, are directors and shareholders of Bioscor. Alan Ong is at large. The court heard that the customer, then 25, went to Bioscor that day to enhance her nose bridge.
The defendant attended to her and recommended injecting filler into her nose and Botox on her cheek regions for about $2,000. The customer agreed and paid the amount. She then referred the woman to the treatment room for Alan Ong, knowing that he was an unauthorised person and an unregistered doctor, to do the job. After the treatment, the complainant visited Bioscor on several occasions as her nose had inflamed as a result. Bioscor has since been dealt with. In July it was fined $1,500 on each of two charges of possessing injectable preparations for sale when it was not a registered pharmacy. Ong could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to 12 months.
