In 2008, Mr Tang was jailed for a day and fined $17,000 for attempting to buy a kidney. Organ trading is illegal in Singapore. He underwent a kidney transplant a year later, and the kidney he received was donated by gangster “One-Eyed Dragon” Tan Jor Chin, who was hanged after being convicted of murder.

SINGAPORE - Mr Tang Wee Sung, the former chairman of Tangs, died on Friday at the age of 69.
The second son of retail tycoon Tang Choon Keng, who was better known as C K Tang, Mr Tang stepped down as chairman of Singapore’s oldest department store in 2016 due to undisclosed reasons.
Speaking to The Straits Times over a call, Mr Tang’s long-time friend and ex-vice president of Tang’s marketing and communication department, Mr Gerry Rezel, hailed him as a “retail legend”, who was “gentle in spirit and kind-hearted”.
Mr Rezel, who had worked at Tangs for close to 35 years, first met Mr Tang in 1981, interviewing for a position in Tang’s marketing team.
Mr Rezel said: “He took me through this model of the new Tang Plaza, which was the plan at the time to build the new Dynasty Hotel and shopping complex on Orchard Road. I was so impressed that it looked so contemporary, as compared to the old Tangs building.”
In 1988, Tangs launched its first lifestyle concept store known as Tang Studios, at Scotts Shopping Centre. The store introduced the collections of local designers to a market that needed their introduction through creative design and selling initiatives, said Mr Rezel.
He added: “Under his charge, Wee Sung provided creative, marketing and overall store support to help them realise their goals and objectives.”
Mr Tang’s long-time friend Dick Lee called him a daring visionary who championed local fashion in the 1980s.
“When I returned from my fashion studies in London, Gerry Rezel who was working at Tangs, introduced me to Wee Sung, who was looking for a display director for Tangs,” said the singer-songwriter, who spoke to ST via WhatsApp.
“We got along extremely well, as his ideas for retail were in line with mine. He was generous, ambitious, creative, and daring enough to hire me!”
In the 1980s, Mr Tang presented the SODA show which featured local designers selling under their own labels for the first time in a department store, said Mr Lee.
The Society of Designing Arts (SODA) is an association of local designers Mr Lee founded with his partner, Alan Koh.
“He revolutionised local retail with his forward-thinking concepts which gave room for local designers to grow.”
Apart from his endeavours in the retail and fashion space, culinary icon and ex-food writer Violet Oon shared about the time she interviewed Mr Tang for a story in 1987 for her own monthly publication The Food Paper.

The story centred on Mr Tang’s love for cooking, and the preparation process of his Christmas dishes, deep fried wanton and turkey dijonnaise.
Referencing the photo of him included in the story, Ms Oon said: “What’s interesting about him was that he wasn’t glitzy. The picture of him in the piece is very indicative of the person he is - very staunch Christian, and his cooking was a mix of east and west.”
She added: “He was surrounded by all these creatives which can be crazy, but he was always such a calm and down-to-earth person at the middle of it all.”

..Thanks for Sharing,The family empire is divided in two, the so-called "Siamese twins." Wee Kit, 60, runs Tang Holdings, the private investment and property firm begun in 1958, while Wee Sung, a 61-year-old bachelor, runs privately held C.K. Tang Ltd. and its six Tangs department stores in Singapore and Malaysia. Assets in Tang Holdings include the Gianurn Building on River Valley Road (the old Tangs store), three adjacent shop houses, a host of residential properties and the Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel--the company's 33-story crown jewel, held under its Legacy Hotel subsidiary. The brothers own all shares, except for 2% of C.K. Tang, which is split among a handful of investors. FORBES ASIA estimated their wealth at $1.37 billion in July.

Dispute here and there? What's the point?Elder brother , wee cheng ,left for New Zealand and Australia
The move followed a prolonged legal dispute with the sons of his eldest brother, Wee Cheng, who had suffered a debilitating stroke in 1983. “The next generation was handling things and had different views,” says Wee Kit. “But we came to a settlement, and we all moved on.” Later, in the mid- 1990s, Wee Cheng took his share of the assets and started the Heritage Group of luxury hotels and serviced apartments in Australia and New Zealand, joined by sons Keith and Jeffrey, then in their 30s.
After headlines about the dispute died down, the Tang family adopted a low public profile. Rare news stories included Wee Kit buying the last major collection of Raffles’ letters in 2007 and Wee Sung’s legal troubles involving his attempt to buy a living donor’s kidney in 2008. He pleaded guilty to charges, spent a day in jail, and then in 2009 received a new kidney from a legal source.

One Eyed Dragon also known as Tony Kia
aka Tan Chor Jin
Tan Chor Jin (Chinese: 陈楚仁; pinyin: Chén Chǔrén;[2] 29 March 1966 – 9 January 2009), also known by his alias Tony Kia, was a Singaporean gang leader known for fatally shooting 41-year-old Lim Hock Soon, his former friend and nightclub owner, using a semi-automatic Beretta 0.22 calibre pistol on 15 February 2006. Tan, who had underworld affiliations and was a member of Ang Soon Tong since his early years, had also robbed the Lim family of their valuables before he escaped Singapore to Malaysia, where he was arrested ten days later. The media gave him the name "One-eyed Dragon" given that he was blind in the right eye.
