Let's move on OK?

It's not a political issue it's a traffic accident.

Ma Chi's family to compensate the victims? Wait long long! In fact, the FAP is probably acting blur when it should be freezing their assets even as they may be packing up to run road! Not before insulting SGs like that Sun Shit thought...

[h=2]Family of PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi scolds Singapore netizens: Hold back your ‘poisonous’ tongues![/h]Posted by temasektimes on May 15, 2012
Instead of apologizing to the victims of the fatal Bugis accident and offering them compensation, the family of the late PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi lashed out at Singaporeans instead for not being ‘sympathetic’ towards him!
The accident was caused by an intoxicated Ma Chi who beat the red lights and rammed into a Hyundai Sonata taxi at a junction between Rochor Road and Victoria Street.
Ma Chi was pronounced dead on the spot. The Japanese female passenger in the taxi died hours later in hospital while the Singaporean cabby Cheng Teck Hock passed away on Sunday evening, leaving behind three children between the ages 16 and 21.
The shocking accident fuels rampant anti-China sentiments among Singaporeans with many venting their frustration and anger on Ma Chi online.

The insensitive comments appear to rile Ma Chi’s family who asked a friend to lodge a complaint to a local Chinese tabloid:
“The rich is not always at fault. We urge netizens to hold back their poisonous tongues.”
One cousin of Ma Chi revealed he started earning his own money when he was 18 years old and is not a son of some rich tycoon:
“I read online that many netizens said my brother deserved to die as he is an offspring of a rich man. I want to tell you, if you cannot afford a Ferrari 599GTO, there is no need to say those who can pay for it is a rich man’s son.”
The Chinese tabloid then went on to trumpet Ma Chi’s ‘accomplishments’ in life, describing him as a ‘savvy investor’ who amassed a huge amount of wealth in merely two years.
Despite the constant harping on Ma Chi’s wealth, very little is known about the financial company he worked in, the type of investments he specialized in or his track record as an investor which raised serious questions on where he made his money from.
On the other hand, since Ma Chi and his family is so rich, they should have no difficulties supporting the family of the late Cheng Teck Hock who was the sole breadwinner and yet there is nothing heard from them so far.
Perhaps the tabloid should consider asking Ma Chi’s family if they intend to apologize and compensate the victims instead of becoming a cheap spokesperson for them to whitewash his heinous act.

It's not an accident. The ferrari driver beat the red lights. The two innocent who were dead should be compensated by the Ferrari driver's family.

If he saw the lights turn red and the taxi accelerating towards his path and he told himself "right... I'm going to plough into this fucking taxi even if it kills me and everyone else!", then it's not an accident.

If he didn't smash into the taxi driver intentionally, then the term "accident" is used.

However, that doesn't absolve him from criminal liability. The charge of manslaughter is still applicable. However, he's not around to defend himself.

Who knows.. perhaps the Ferrari was faulty and the accelerator pedal got stuck! It's always a possibility even if it's a remote one.

Ma Chi is an idiot. He was clearly in the wrong as he ran the red light.

I bust my guts out trying to integrate PRCs and native Singaporeans and his rash act undid so much of my work over the last five years

Even my Sichuan wife also scolded this fuerdai

I added this to the equation simply because it's the foundation of any civilized legal system. ;) "Innocent until proven guilty".

If emotion rather than evidence is used to pass judgement, we end up back in the dark ages where mob rule and on the spot lynching was the order of the day. The movie "The Green Mile" comes to mind. Prejudice ruled and an innocent man who could have done much good for the world was zapped to death for a crime he did not commit.

Traffic accident it may be but if public sentiments turns into resentment and dissent, it can and may overflow into political issue.

Judging by what has been written in the media and on-line, I'd say the link has well and truly been made.

I agree with your view, the papzis kept its silence but its machinery is going overdrive with hogwash.

It's actually slightly more nuanced than that. If you did something that in a reasonable person's mind is likely to cause death, which then does cause death, the law treats it as homicide. In extreme cases, it can even be treated as murder.

In this case, the Ferrari driver appeared to have shot the red by at least 5 seconds. He also seemed to have made no effort to stop. In my mind, and I am reasonable, those were acts likely to cause death. In this instant, they caused three deaths.

Unless there was obvious evidence of intent to kill, it would be very difficult to get the murder charge to stick.

to the qualified Psychologists reading,....Do you think that the Ferrari driver was suffering from a bout of Manic Depression ?
I know of a few high-achieving individuals,..and they seek medical treatment for MD.
When MD hits,...either they feel verrrry Powerful, High,....and does lots of reckless, crazt things,...

Family of the taxi driver will be assisted: Law minister, Shanmugan
Maybe his law firm can fight the case for them?!

More help will be available for the family of the taxi driver who died in an accident with a Ferrari and motorcycle last Saturday.

MP for Nee Soon GRC and Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam says they will offer all necessary assistance to the family.

Mr Shanmugam paid his respects at the wake of Comfort DelGro taxi driver Cheng Teck Hock on 15 May.

He said he has spoken to his grassroots leaders, the Community Development Ministry and NTUC.

They will put together a package to help the family in the long term, but the family has requested for time to work out the details.*

The 52-year-old was the sole bread winner of the family and had been a taxi driver for 10 years.*

He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.*

Two others also died in the accident - the driver of the Ferrari and the Japanese passenger on board the taxi.

look like instant death, pity
He should have suffered a few days

Maybe a quick death is the best for all concerned. If he had a lingering death only the PAP would have benefitted from all those medical expenses.
If he had survived I bet he would have just gotten a slap on the wrist. I am reminded of past cases where FTs were involved in accidents that caused death & either got off, were given fines, or simply left Spore.

PAP is famous for making empty promises:rolleyes: To be taken seriously the PAP must give details on what this assistance is.

We all know how little the PAP values the life of "lesser mortals" just look at what the family of dead NS receive. NS men are expected to pay for their own insurance:eek:
