Family performs ritual to appease bad spirits
A FAMILY of five believes they are cursed by bad spirits following a holiday cruise to Singapore a few months ago, reports Sin Chew Daily. The paper said the family carried out a ritual after they experienced a series of problems at work and their relationship with each other worsened. They then took part in a ritual with a medium, in which they were told to walk around an empty coffin and burn offerings. According to an expert in Chinese traditions, the ritual was to demonstrate that the family had carried out good deeds.
The daily also reported that a movable ko tai (stage show) had been set up at a graveyard in Singapore to entertain the departed during the Hungry Ghosts Festival. Six singers began their performance at a temporary stage, which was actually the back of a lorry, from 5.30pm to midnight. The paper said this was the first time a stage show was conducted at the graveyard.
