i have finally set foot on ION which i had vowed to boycott ... but only the basement foodcourt & stalls ...
i like 'padang padang' ...
but must keep an eye on prices ... rice + 3 veg (no meat) = $4.80 ... which i usually order ...
rice with 1 meat & 1 veg = $5.50 oredi ...
the original poster thought he's ordering from his void deck malay stall meh ? point, point, point, point - end up $8.80 ! when go ION, must be careful, its where Ho Jinx of Temasek/CapMall attempts to bankrupt u ! ...
once, ended up becoming unpaid freelance tourist guide ... tourist pointed at sweet potato leaves and asked PRC server 'what's this' ? PRC server shrugged, shouted to her comrade 'zhe shi shenmo ?' me have to explain to tourist, said nice, & recommended her to try - sweet potato leaves simmered in coconut sauce ... 'worked' for mdm jinx for free ...

i will ... i stick to the 3 veg $4.80 option ...
reason is -- some of the HDB heartland stalls are of poor quality & unhygienic ...
ION is feeding PAP pets ! high profile wealthy foreign residents & tourists ... so the dishes are well-prepared, clean, and of the best quality to give a good impression of local cuisine ...
some heartland mixed rice stalls serve the rice like feeding pigs ... the mixed rice and food dumped on it look like pig swill ... the toilet got no soap so u think the hawkers wash their hands ?
im not saying all heartland stalls are like that, but some are ... NEA is sleeping Zzzzz ... or maybe all their officers deployed to orchard road ...

I think food poisoning in Spore is quite common with so many "D" rated places. However going all the way to Orchard Rd to eat is kinda extreme
Easier to pack your own lunch or going only to places you trust.
