SINGAPORE - A heavy storm yesterday morning resulted in a large tree branch crashing through part of a hostel roof at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Lianhe Wanbao reported.
Three students who were sleeping in a sixth-floor room at NTU's Hall 9 were startled by the loud crashing noises and managed to dash out to safety.
One of its occupants, 20-year-old Xu Tongyao told The Straits Times that the incident was "very scary" and that more sounds of things crashing could be heard after they evacuated the room.
Their room's ceiling fell apart, letting in the rain which wrecked the students' valuables like their notes, laptop computers and textbooks, Ms Xu's roommate Su Jing said.
The third girl in the room was a fellow hall mate who was bunking in with them.
A total of three rooms were affected by the fallen branch, Wanbao said, with Ms Xu's room being particularly damaged.
The girls suffered minor cuts and bruises, and were taken to the university's clinic.
Ms Xu and Ms Su have been moved to another room a few bus stops down, ST said.
