By 6 pm, race organiser Singapore GP (SGP) had sold about a fifth of 39,000 grandstand tickets released to the public, prompting a decision to release the grandstand at Turn 3 come April 20 when the Bay grandstands and walkabout tickets go on sale.
Turn 3 Grandstand will be priced at $988 for available early bird tickets and $1,188 when the early bird tickets run out.
'We are encouraged by the strong response and pleased that the early bird prices are popular with race fans. The improvements to the ticketing system and call centre have ensured that no major transaction issues were reported today,' said Michael Roche, executive director of SGP.
Last year, high demand caused the ticketing system to stall, which led SGP to bring Sistic on board this year to prevent such a snag.
According to SGP, most sales came in through the online booking system, authorised overseas sales agents and the hotline call centre. In contrast, the Sistic box office at the Indoor Stadium had fewer walk-up customers.
Grandstands that proved the most popular were the Pit, Padang and Connaught grandstands.
