ROAD closures in the Marina Bay area will be reduced to six days for this year's Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prox (SGP), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Thursday.

For the inaugural race in 2008, the road closure period was 12 days. This was reduced by around 40 per cent to 7 days for last year's event.

Full details of the closures and public transportation plans will be announced closer to the race, which will take place September 24 to 26.

More time was required in 2008 because special race track lighting equipment had to be installed along with other infrastructural requirements, STB said.

Last year, the road closure period was reduced by 40 per cent, with the basic installation already in place and public feedback incorporated.
