It is frightening to see so many scholars in Singapore. We do not know what is in their mind that may cause great harm in future. Many of them have no prior working experience and most did not fly out from their nest in public sector. I see no reason why we should be taxed to feed all these expensive morons.
Calling them morons would be a stretch. These are smart people we are talking about here. However an expensive mind is not necessarily expansive and expansive minds are not necessarily expensive. If they had been running successful businesses or made significant hedge fund gains over several years and got headhunted, I would applaud their appointments into directorships/ CEO posts with the GLCs or public service bodies. However in reality this is not so as their career path is charted and fast tracked. Essentially many of these scholars have been plain sailing for most of their careers. What do they lead corporations with? Foresight, wisdom, experience, accountability, humility and courage is what we look for in leaders. They do not necessarily have to show us straight As in all the exams they have taken. Even Einstein only scored distinctions in Maths and Physics and he failed one entry exam to ETH Zurich.
Don't explain failures away with personal limitations or global situations. Let's take for example the issue of town council sinking funds. Where there town hall meetings to discuss allocation of investments? Singaporeans are not morons, we have the well educated, experienced business owners and avid travelers amongst us in the various towns. Why do you not call on us? Send pamphlets to our mailboxes to attend town hall meetings on various issues: environment, security, maintenance etc. Instead everything was hush hush and we only got to know Sh|t thats splattering about when it hit the ceiling. Learn to pick the brains of the masses. Heard of swarm intelligence or open innovation concepts?
Keep the iron door with the bolt on and people will just leave. The redundancy people have been made to feel about their opinions when they are the true sons and daughters of the isle who have toiled hard is uncalled for.
