I have always been talking about the Monopoly of GLCs in Singapore.

Too many govt-link companies will only cultivate more zombies in the ranks.
These GLCs employees does not recognise the importance and handship of making
money. They cease being competitive on a global stage and choose to be in a
customer mode rather than being in a money hunting mode. Papies will never fire
this zombies when businesses are losing money. Thus further fuelling the mindset
of these zombies that their current performance are acceptable (which is utterly
wrong).

I’ve work in these GLCs for 14 years and 9 years ago, I have decided that
enough is enough. The education and training I have received from abroad, just
do not match with the mindset in the GLCs. Cost is more improtant that looking
for money. Example, they will spent days on end to save cost rather than
spending the time and effort to look for businesses and hunt in the safari.
Guess its easier to ask the lower rankings to save cost than to be slap in the
face by the customers. GLCs ranking zombies are FULL OF PRIDE !! They cannot
lower themselves. Guess the papies culture has infected the GLCs too.
Today, I
am still doing business with the GLCs and also competing with them on overseas
projects. They are too dogmatic, and full of philosophies of their military
days…sigh…I wonder who cares ?

Papies need these zombies for their votes, cause majority know papies are
their paymasters.
Many still think that their advancement will be affected if
they vote an opposition. It’s a mindset or you can call it a brainwash. Has
anyone taken notice that in spite of a global downturn, papies insensibly
increase the salaries of their zombies in ranks, where many privatre companies
employees are taking the heat in absolute income !
Papies do not want the cost
of living to lower. This idiotic action only fuel living cost escalating higher
even during looming business outlook. One can only define such action as votes
are their only objectives, to gain votes, benefit some and kill many, it’s worth
the move. Singaporeans ?

If one would notice the news, a recent article of a stat board public servant
says that his office is not interested in helping SMEs. I wonder how on earth
this person has the guts to utter such statement, where is salary is paid by the
nation ! Its extremely high handedness, no fear of repercussion and no respect
local businesses ? How would one office address themselves as a Singapore Stat
Board and not supporting local SMEs ?

As a nation, our brands are pathetic against Japan, S Korea, Taiwan. Even
Thailand has REDBULL to boast about as a private business. What do we have for
private businesses that are dynamic ? Did anyone sees any of our Singaporean
brand in F1 cars, FA Cups, European Cups, any major global event for that matter
?

GLCs has to go, or for that matters sold to local consortium to be really
privatized. Alternatively, remove or limit all the military hard heads to their
forte’ and leave the commercial businesses to the proven and with track records.

Guess it’s a little hard for them to except as these commercial lads are hardly
any ‘Yes’ men.

That is all I have to say.

This is not news anymore, few if any local brands to claim as world renowned ones, everyone is just watching the downfall of those who have tried eg Creative. they are trying the PR route to blow the trumpet via a TV documentary called "The Centennials".

a typical mindset would be "Lucky I did not take so much risk, if not I would have to forgo this GLC/big co job which brings in 200/300k per year salary". In Taiwan, there is a saying, throw a stone and chances are you will hit a business owner or entrepreneur. If you throw a stone here, everyone will siam!

Just found out that there are specific tour agencies that cater only to MOE and not to the open market. this is news to me as they only pitch for govt sponsored education trips. where is the transparency in this, vs the Brompton case? is there even a pitch, and even if there is, will these govt-led companies lose out? Or are they govt-owned in the first place? that would be unfair to the other players in the travel market.

I don't have the answers, maybe someone can shed some light.
