CORTINA Watch's former supervisor Jerry Ee who pulled off a $7.6 million Christmas Day heist was jailed for nine years on Friday.

EE BEGAN pocketing watches as early as 2006 to pay off his soccer bets. When his debts spiralled out of control, he committed the Christmas Day heist with a bang, he added.
DPP Yim said it was highly plausible that Ee might have squirreled some of the misappropriated items for his later life.

The total value in all 25 charges was $8.2 million. The remaining charges were considered during his sentencing.
The court heard that Ee returned to the store's Raffles City outlet after it was closed on Christmas Day with two luggage bags. He had pre-arranged a rented limousine to pick him up with his $7.6 million loot comprising branded watches and take him home to Jalan Rumah Tinggi.
After packing, he headed straight to Woodlands checkpoint with the property in the limousine. In Johor Baru, he met his friend, Chang Jing, and together, took a cab to Hatyai, Thailand. They went to Bangkok where he managed to sell 21 watches for about 3 million baht (S$127,000). They later went to Pattaya where Ee remained in hiding until he surrendered on March 17 in Bangkok.
He handed over 230 new watches worth $4.6 million and $16,160 to the police, causing Cortina to lose about $3 million.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Benjamin Yim highlighted several aggravating factors in the case, saying Ee's overall criminal conduct was clearly shocking and morally reprehensible.
'His criminal actions have caused considerable financial loss and emotional anguish to various innocent corporate entities and private individuals,' he said.
