JOHOR BARU: A 41-year-old former beauty pageant queen has claimed she has received more than 200 sexual harassment calls from foreign men after her phone number was exposed by an “envious” fan.
The victim, who only wanted to be known as Yoke, said that the incident first occurred on May 17 at 8.30pm when she saw a Facebook Live conducted by the suspect mentioning her name.
The single mother added that she had only met the man once during a beauty pageant competition back in 2021.
“I was at home with my three children when suddenly, I was informed by a friend saying that someone had mentioned my name during a Facebook Live.
“At the time, the video had reached more than 1,800 viewers. He had casually ‘promoted’ me for being sexually active and can go for ‘seven rounds’ a night.
“He was mentioning all these vulgar words while talking to a few foreign men who are working at a carwash shop,” she said during a press conference held at the Johor MCA public complaints bureau office at Danga Bay here on Tuesday (May 30).
Yoke claimed the man said that he would share her pictures with the foreign men.
She said after the Facebook session ended, she had been receiving non-stop calls and chats from unknown numbers.
“I don’t even know what I did to him that he has to treat me in this manner,” said Yoke, adding that she could no longer go to work as she could not deal with the stress.
To make things worse, a video recording of the live session was uploaded again on May 20 at 10pm, she said.
Yoke lodged a police report on the matter and another report to the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Johor MCA public complaints bureau committee member Joan Ng Geok Yin said the victim had also met with a psychiatrist to help her deal with the stress.
Ng said she had called the 47-year-old suspect, known as Lee, who claimed that he was merely doing it for a joke.
“Sharing a person’s phone number and making vulgar stories about her is not a joke, and he should have never made such a statement in the first place, and could have said some other stuff.
“He also uploaded the video again and claimed that he did nothing wrong,” said Ng, adding that the person might have done this to gain more followers on his social media account.
“Our investigations revealed that he is working as an online traditional herb seller, so we believed that his motive is to gain popularity by ruining others,” she added.
Ng hopes that the police can take immediate action to stop the harassment.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed a report was lodged regarding the case.
