ERP will not solve the root of traffic problems!

These retards think ERP gantry is a good doctor . Once traffic volume goes up, the ERP kicks in---this is a stop-gap solution and indirectly sucking blood money from the drivers.

But the root of the problem remains! ERP only channels traffic jams somewhere else.

Just ask yourselves, how many cars are driven by rich FTs and foreigners?

Artificial increase of population will cause traffic problems --this is a simple math.
The poor locals who need vehicles to live a life are at the expense of these bloody ERPs.

More ERPs to hurt your pockets to reduce traffic volume but the number of FTs (include PRs and New sporns) continue to grow, and in future only the rich FT citizens can afford the ERPs.

With all due respect, the root of the traffic problems is PAP and its euphoria to get foreign talents.

Worst is yet to come for Traffic problems …6 million figure is dead scary………………these skunks are killing sinkapore.

Wonder how stupid are these PAP voters , they vote for ERPs, and they prefer to let rich FTs drive, veri seow ! No wonder they are usless and FT is vital !

Simply too many cars.

ERP cannot solve the issue

The only way is to make car ownership very expensive by having a minimum $100,000 COE price, then bid for whatever is above that

For second car, minimum COE should be $250,000

Ban zero-financing. all buyers must pay minimum 50% cash upfront

instead of being sarcastic at a genuine attempt to solve the problem, suggest something please

a lot of people cannot afford to buy, take the no-money down to show off, then get into trouble

there are simply too many cars, how to cut this down if everybody so insecure and wants to howlian

what to suggest, money is everything, everything is money.
in singapore, no money you die.

so let the rich Fts drive, well its Ok, if not why PAP got 66.6%, they win, and people like it.
No question about it, PAP wins ! So ERP is good.

Answer to reduce traffic problems is easy
1. Add more ERP grantry and increase all the rate by at least double.
2. Start operating ERP as early as 6.30am
3. Increase parking charge by double.
4. Increase fuel tax by double.

When all above kick in the usage of car cost will automatic increase by double. Those can buy car should be able to afford the increase or else better sell the car. Gov get more money/tax from car and at the sametimes reduce GST so poor people will also benefit.

You are right.

Unfortunately our dear leaders do not have the political will to do what is right. Instead, under the guise of political intellect, they have generated an antiquated, bureaucratic, over-bloated, ill conceived transport system with regards to car ownership that is layered with numerous taxation, which on the surface seems to address the issue of a burgeoned car population, but in reality is nothing more than to pander to and to take advantage of the urges of the populace's anxieties and greed in wanting to own a loss making piece of investment, and milk them of their money while at it.

Armed with an excellent idea and publicity of creating a world class transport system for our island, but without the political expediency nor vision to fast track what would otherwise have been a really major initiative to put Singapore onto the world map, that advantage has now turned into a political minefield, which no other politician (within the Ministries of National Development or Transport) other than our Late Mr Ong Teng Cheong has had the gumption and foresight to tackle.

Our current mode of "tinkering and manipulation" of the various modes of taxation for car ownership (ie. COE, road tax, and not to mention the failure to deal with the oligopolistic practices of the petrol companies, among others), as well as the failure to provide a fairly transparent and adequate public transport system to deal with the burgeoned population after years of feedback, can not and simply will not bode well for Singapore as it reflects the quality of our leaders and their mindset in not serving the needs of the people for whom they are suppose to serve.

All is not lost. Our world-class-salaried politicians can redeem themselves if they begin to serve the people, as it should be intended, rather than to serve the corporations. Have the political will to make tough decisions to wean people off car ownership. Make world class transportation that is fairly transparent and above adequate a top priority and agenda in our national debate and budgetary apportioning. Champion alternative modes of transportation and create national infrastructures to support as such (eg. bicycles and Segways).

That way, at least they will still have my respect.
