ENG’s wanton mee at Tg Katong road.
I went there twice last week after they finished renovations to two units that were once occupied by NH AH SHUI bah Kut teh . Both times I was disappointed , I have known engkor ( the founder) for years and we have been friends since years ago . For our good friendship I used to patronise his joint venture when he first started at Tg Katong with a partner , then after engkor’s Sudden departure things simply went down the slippery slope. His Son n possibly Daughter/or Daughter in law ( the fat cashier is an arrogant /unfriendly n rude character) . There was an occasion I ordered without filling the order form because shop was empty n I didn’t have my glasses on, she refused to take my verbal order and I had to leave without eating there. On another occasion I paid with a $50 note but she gave me a fierce look n passed a snide remark. Since then I avoided going to her JV shop until their breakup . The JV partner immediately commenced operations after the dissolution next to their old shophouse while the original descendants of Eng Kor took a bold move to operate in two units opposite their ex-partner.
I must admit the ex-partner learnt this trade very quickly and their recipe n quality is similar to Engkr’s version. However , their service has improved with new Management and Iwan quite pleased.
A Month later original Eng’s descendants opened shop and I decided to go there to try it out , on the first occasion I was disappointed by their poor service ! Roasted lard n green chilli containers were not refilled when they ran out , I had to go to the counter to inform them to refill. During my second occasion , it happened again , this time I met the fat Daughter/Daughter in law and I told her no more green chilli n roasted lard . She shouted across the table where she was sitting to tell me no more , no more , we will make when kitchen hands are free! This totally took me by surprise , opening two units to challenge their ex-partner and yet so arrogant? Never prepare enough green chilli n crispy lard to please clients. Isn’t this suicidal ?.
Let’s wait , I think it will spell their downfall if they continue managing their business this way. Engkor’s Efforts n reputation will go down the drain because of his chilren’s Bad management n manners .
