Election in June 2009? Very Possible

I don't think there is a need as our great PAP government will definitely dominate the elections again. It will waste time and resources.

Funny you should say this....didn't your wooden minister during his stint as PM called for by election in Marine Parade in Dec 1992 just so he could rush that Rear "Ass" Admirer Teo into parliament ...and this was barely 1 and half years right after the last general election in August 1991...isn't this a waste of time and resources too?

:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

And why in this instance, a by election is called when there was no vacancy of seat due to a death etc? And why wasn't one called for, for Jurong GRC when a MP has passed on?

Why is your master so afraid to call for one now and hiding behind all the legal crap so as to avoid calling for one?

:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

Very impossible.
With recession like this, more likely PAP gonna lose votes.

They will only held election when economy gets better
and
they can claim the recovery of economy to their credit.

:D :o :D

Lesser Mortals already suffering with job losses, a
recession budget which will be ineffective in alleviating their pain
and not satisfied with Temasek/GIC explanation for the investment losses
that could be put to better use on the economy. I think the MIW is beginning
to worry if things get even worse.

STAND WITH ALL THOSE THAT FIGHT BASTARD LKY

OR STAND UP YOURSELF IN YOUR CONSTITUENCY

DONT BE BULLIED BY THAT FUCKING COWARD LKY USING HIS CORRUPT KANGAROO COURTS

I agree with you. Infact, I won't be surprised if the snap election is in March or the Good Friday weekend in April. June seems too far away. My reasons are:

1. Economically, things are unfolding faster than you and I can imagine. It is getting worse. Most companies financial result will be out by April and we are gonna see massive losses (followed by cost cutting which leads to retrenchment). The recent budget measures would seem ineffective. Another round of off-budget measures won't come in till June or July which is too late for the people. Timing is crucial

2. Opposition is not weak, as some believed. It is actually growing stronger. Recent performance by LTK and Sylvia has been more than good. Many a times, the MIW were caught flat footed. While many may disagree with CSJ and SDP on their focus and strategy, opposition is indeed gaining ground. In desperate times like this, it is not how good the opposition is but how hated is the ruling party.

3. Power of the netizens - while ST and the MIWs choose to ignore Sammyboy and perhaps, grudgingly acknowledged TOC and Wayang Party websites, the signs are clearly there that they are not ignoring the net. Recent comments/unhappiness by netizens have solicited response. Issues like lesser mortals, PS cooking lessons, Ho Ching's resignations are a response to the net.

4. The PAP is not totally, unaware of it's ground support. While many a times, if not most of the times, information gets filtered before it reaches up, they are not exactly sleeping in their ivory tower, devoid of feedback. They may hate to hear it, but the truth is out there. The ground is really bitter and they know it. For an old man of LKY's generation to burn Seng Han Thong, tells you so much the love people have for the ruling party. The drift is wider than the PAP wants to believe.

5. LHL is loosing ground. His ministers are making a joke of their million dollar salaries. Examples of their guffaws, just to name a few:
- Khaw recent suggestion of nursing homes in JB
- Hwee Hua admission of 41% loss by GIC
- Mah's no frills housing
- Wong's prized catch escape
- MM golden years assurance

6. LKY may not last another election if held in 2012. He will see and help to get his son secured for another 5 year term, at least.

7. This recession will not recover in 1 -2 years time. It will last many more years. There is going to be a pardigm shift in the economic model of the world. Protectionism is rearing its head and more things will turn topsy-turvy. Even the PAP elite will be dumbfounded. More horror stories will pour out from Wall Street. The banks that GIC invetsed may go up in smoke.

yah..think there will be elections soon.

- its everyone guess how long will this recession last and signs are that it will get worse before it can recover. How long before recovery? God knows. Moreover, given our economy, even when the rest of Asia is recovering, we won't recover until some time later. Rather than hold elections then (when the situation gets more messy) - they might as do it now.

- oppposition --> all cards are now in PAP's hands. It is unlikely that the opposition can put up a strong team, not in such times. And what can they campaign on? The important issues - jobs - can they propose something that can attract votes? Pro-singaporean and kick all foreigners out? Yup, thats what I will campaign for if i am the opposition.

- play the fear card. In times like this, they will tell voters, there is only one party / government that can lead you through - thats us - PAP. We have the experience and we have the resources. You would not want to try something new now right ? So, here we are, experienced. Sure to get votes becuase people are scared and no time to think of change now.

You can be sure more retrenchments are coming....and our economy is going to be worse before any signs of recovery. And PAP won't wait till then. they want to get first another 5 yr mandate.

What are you saying? 66.6% voted for PAP last round also now has no job.

LKY needs to be more creative this time round, like your wife will be prostitute in other countries...(opps! he has used it before).

Anyway, My worry is that CST would be retiring due to health problem, so Potong Pasir would be risky of going back to PAP.

66.6% will still vote for PAP, the jinx will become the president...or MM, taking over from old man, who is getting old.

:D

seriously, ofart may drop dead when he becomes the President..LOL..

Not unless little clown decides to keep his current cahoot of boot lickers, the usual signs of a election are not there...introduction of new faces etc and the usual ministars walk about to show their fuck face of how much they care about the people...
