Hi Funds,
If I am not wrong, the entire NZ falls in the earthquake zone.
Happy Holidays!
Is it in the pacific ring of fire. Many dormant valcanos, rich fertilte land, tat's y v nice. That's the truth.
For myself, I am 39 years old now and hope to retire or semiretire by 45 years old in JB. Hope to do so by renting out my terrace and MM in Sg. Hopefully, it will give me S$5000 per month to retire comfortably in JB by then. Need to save up to pay off my terrace martgage and MM2H program by then.
Thanks for starting this thread. Looks like we have quite similar plans except that I did some calculations and thought I'd be able to live fairly decently on S$3500 per mth, but this is subjective and based on one's needs and lifestyle. I'm planning to make my move when my condo TOPs in 2015.
Although I will not rule out taking up some part-time work if an opportunity arises, I will definitely not take on any work that requires me to commute to sg regularly as I expect the ciq jams to only get worse in the years ahead and the stress that comes with this does not fit in with my plan. I plan to do more volunteer work through the local church as there is so much that can be done for the local underprivileged community compared to sg where funding and assistance schemes are more developed.
If u disagree, pls dun flame me :p
Back to e topic, many people r using JB to lower their cost of living. It doesn't start in their retirement years, but it starts on e weekends.
Cost of living will be e main driver.
That is great...so we r both Christians too...Do u have school going children and where would they study? Mine will either commute back to Sg or study at Austin Heights International school..hubby more keen for former, so need to wait till RTS is up if not supporting a Sg car will mean I have to work more.
yup, jb has better products now compare to 10 years ago.
but i don't think it's that great living there. it's just cheaper, that's all.
You are absolutely spot-on!
By purchasing power parity, MY is ahead. With SGD4,000 one would get MYR10,000. You can more than get-by in Boleh land.

you answer very fastGood to have G&G, even in Singapore. Burglary cases in landed areas of Singapore is climbing. But I do find Johor getting slightly more expensive than 1 year+ ago. $1 mil RM is still quite cheap to someone earning in SGD buying a freehold landed The major deterrent is the traffic jam at the 1st and 2nd links. With many still working or having children schooling in Singapore, it is quite tough to shift over. If this is resolved, we will see prices climbing easily to over $2 mil RM.
Peter Lim hospital only.
Prof - Just joking. Even in Singapore not all the hospitals have all the equipment. We need to check with the specialists what equipment and expertise the hospital. There are also the major issues of government subsidy and Medisave/Medishield. In the worst case scenario, the patient might have to come back to Singapore for treatment.
Got to go the right hospital in JB :p

I buy for my ageing parents to retire in JB; while I venture into Vietnam.
