Rather fair statement from a retired statesman. ;)

Dr. M explained that under the constitution of Malaysia, sultan have the power to appoint MB or not to appoint a certain candidate. But once the power had been exercised, and MB had been appointed by sultan, the sultan do have any more power to remove the appointed MB. That is something that only a No Confident Vote can do according to constitution.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad today delivered a potential hammer blow to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak by stating that an elected head of a state government cannot be removed by a sultan.

Instead, the former prime minister said that the elected head of a state government can only be removed by a vote of no-confidence in the legislative assembly.
