Downtown East fatal stabbing case, sentence out

Soh Wai Wah, watch your back!

Retired Judge Sinnathurai was once thrown onto his direction with a prison slipper by this mentally crazy old timer Malay jailbird.. Sinnathurai was then the judge hearing his case.. The Malay chap's name who entered the prison's folklore was Baboo Saa.. Drug addict and old time Malay gangster.. In and out of prison since late 60s.. Now already in his 70s, can see him at Bedok Interchange at times asking for alms.. With the money he'll then buy himself a can of Guinness..

When he was inside he was also notorious for poking the backsides of inmates younger than him.. He'll offer an apple to begin the friendship, and if that unlucky young bugger accepted his apple, then he must surrender his backside to this crazy fella during the nite.. If the younger inmate refuses to do so, then this Baboo Saa chap would do it by force.. Back then prison rules quite cocked up.. Homosexual activities quite rampant back then and Prison warders would close one eye on all these activities during the nite..

Wow climb mountain king !!!

Dude the guy having you on. No caning in installments, if medically cannot take it halfway then no more...but have to be certify by baba (prison term for doctor). Also the skill of the caner is make sure that no 2 strokes land on same spot if not your buttocks will be cut deep...they are skillful enough to line them up side by side but of course they do miss and if 2 strokes land on same spot then the pain is unbearable. The scars never heal that is true, many say because cane is dip in chemicals beforehand but it's bullshit....only dip in water to prevent the rattan from splitting. How I know all this? Because when I was in prison I was in charge of setting up everything for the caning session.
Oh bro, you forgot to tell them about the threstle where the prisoner is supported before caning and the padding covering the kidney areas. Also, the count and the score board. How I know this? I read Michael Fay's book.

From what I was told, the hardcore SS chaps won't even 'ouch' when the cane lands on their buttocks. They want "FACE".

4 chaps who were wrongly caned 48 and 36 strokes in the late 80s were carried to their cells after their marathon session to the cheers of their fellow inmates. Not even an 'ouch' from these 4.

Yes you are right, show emotion is loss of face but easier said than done.
Also its the most unlikely prisoners that will cry and scream.
I only had chance to see FTs kena cane as I was in Queenstown Remand and that's where all the aliens were housed and caned then. Never get to see the max 24 strokes as most were overstayers and 3-4 strokes were the norm, max I saw was a bangla who got 11 strokes. The tiongs are the ones who will cry and scream....some even pee and shit in their pants or vomit (we cookies will curse and swear as we are the ones cleaning up). The banglas it's harder to tell who will fold....some not even a whimper while others cry their hearts out

SINGAPORE: Five youths who stabbed and slashed a polytechnic student in a 2010 Downtown East fight have pleaded guilty to culpable homicide and were sentenced on Friday.

In the incident, 19-year-old Darren Ng Wei Jie died from his injuries after being slashed and stabbed with knives, choppers and a screwdriver by a group of more than 10 youths.

The five who were sentenced on Friday are:

Ho Wui Ming, 22, was jailed 11 years, 3 months and sentenced to 10 strokes of the cane
Chen Wei Zhen, 21, was sentenced to 10 years and 10 strokes
Edward Tay Wei Loong, 20, was sentenced to 10 years and 10 strokes
Louis Tong Qing Yao, 17, was sentenced to 8 years and 11 strokes
Stilwell Ong Keat Pin, 20, was sentenced to 12 years and 12 strokes

Ong, believed to be the main culprit, received the stiffest sentence. Prosecutors argued that he had gathered the accused and other accomplices to Downtown East for the confrontation.

Two others also faced separate charges relating to moneylending, theft, and mischief.

Ho faced two other charges for theft and mischief, while Tong faced two moneylending-related charges.

In mitigation, their lawyers said the fight had erupted in the heat of the moment and that the boys were genuinely remorseful.

Seven others linked to the case have earlier been jailed and caned for rioting.

Quite fair sentence.
They will not have any future when release. No job experience and have bad record.
What job can they do>> lorry driver, taxi driver, cleaner.............

head to bedok reservoir in 11years time for mass suicide when released?

Yes Uncle GD you're right.. The Hardcore ones very steady when kena Rotan.. For them the face factor very important to them.. The ones who shouted the most during caning sessions were the YPs (young prisoners), and those who kena Rotan for the 1st time..

Respect from other inmates would also given to any inmate who assaulted a Prison Officer, the higher the rank of the Officer assaulted, the more fame the inmate would receive from his fellow inmates..

Bro, this segment reminds me of a movie script starring Chow Yuen Fatt..forgotten it's titLe; but it was a bLockbuster then.

Nothing like a good uppercut to knock some of those wardens out!

SINGAPORE - They turned up in court to support their "brother" for his hearing.

But the 19 of them, aged between 17 and 22, were arrested instead.

In November 2010, Louis Tong Qing Yao, one of the 12 charged with Mr Darren Ng's murder, appeared before a district court.

Tong's friends, who are believed to be gang members, went to give him moral support.

But there was no escaping the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act (CLTPA).

Introduced in 1955, the Act allows law-enforcement agencies to detain suspected secret society members for years - without trial.

Secret societies are organised syndicates with hierarchies and involve elaborate initiations.

They are often involved in criminal activities such as drugs peddling and illegal moneylending.

Street-corner gangs are loose groupings of wayward young men often involved in petty crime.

The relevance of the controversial CLTPA is reviewed once every five years, and the last review was in 2009.

Lawyers quoted in the previous report said that the law was used sparingly, and detainees were subject to yearly reviews.

But those detained do not have a sentence, and often can only look forward to the end of one year, and hope they are released after the review.

Even when they are released, previous detainees may be subject to a supervision order.

They are given strict curfews and would have to report to the police station about once a week.

Bravo for section 55, I fully support this act!

Will they be given grammy award from their ji Tao senior member upon released or any gold medal to pin on their shirt?

You got to ask yourselves despite the decades of this law, why are they so bold to appear in court. The SS and their headman are still here, still controlling their turf and raking in the money. They stopped having open gangfights, do not create a scene etc but the nonsense is still here. hey still extort the meek and the weak. Imagine they murdered the kid, still can appear to support their gang. It reflects poor on the Police.

If you check police records, no need to raid. A call to the headman and the members surrender.

Those KNNBPCB Pai kia think that they can kwai lan with the Police. Good for them, now they know who is in charge.

Yes, doesn't reflect well on the police, especially SSB/CID. It's the younger members who don't show any respect. The older chaps do. That's the reason why some of them do not attend the funeral wakes of their gang members when they suspect SSB chaps will be present. Especially for high profile cases.

Some gangs chose not to celebrate the 7th month dinner this year. They heard SSB would go all out to enforce the appropriate law this year. So, the old timers still give face to SSB. Not the youngsters.

The only exception being gang members wanted for murder or other offences which may lead to a death sentence. All other cases, headmen directs, members surrender. Can also arrange for convenient time to surrender.
