The GIC Essay Prize, as the competition is called, will be administered by the National University of Singapore's Centre for Asset Management Research and Investments.
Two prizes - of $5,000 and $2,000 - will be given out each year for the best written essays.
'The GIC Essay Prize is our way of engaging young people in what we do - hopefully, they will come to appreciate that the wealth of a nation does not come about by chance,' Dr Tan said.
Additional information, including assessment criteria and competition details, will be announced in August.
