Doctor axed by patient at Tianjin hospital

Police locked down accident scene after the doctor was killed at the hospital.
Tianjin, China – A female doctor died from serious injury when a patient in the hospital attacked her with an axe. The accident happened in the afternoon on November 29, local media has confirmed the victim’s death later.
Around 1:30 pm, a man rushed into a clinic on the second floor in the hospital, hold an axe in his hand. Kang Hongqian, the victim, was attacked by the suspect while on duty. Kang, 40, is an acupuncture doctor in No. 1 hospital affiliated to Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese medicine. The suspect was captured by police after jumped off from the hospital building and injured himself. The cause of the attack is under investigation.
Witness said the victim was injured on the head by the axe 5 times, but the case was not identified as a doctor-patient dispute. Kang, the victim, just came back to work from her chemotherapy, source said. The police locked down the accident scene when they arrived.
Several accidents involved doctors being injured or killed in a number of major cities in China this year, due to doctor-patient disputes. Hospitals in Beijing even hired security force to prevent accidents like this. FMN
