To be frank, I had better cover my own ass rather than relying on them.
The Singapore police force are far better than the majority of the other law enforcement organisations around the world.
Are they perfect? Of course they aren't. We all make mistakes and make wrong assessments of volatile situations. Hindsight is always 20/20 but if you were on the ground, would you have done any better given the circumstances?
Passing judgement after the deed is easy. Putting yourself in the hot seat is a different kettle of fish altogether.
Just plain Complacency on the Police part, what if any of your love ones was
injured in tis riot? Surely, you be singing a diff Tune.
One must not mix personal experiences with objective assessments. When someone you care for is harmed in some way, irrational emotions always cloud better judgement.
I've known mothers of axe murderers and vile rapists describe their children as angels and blame the police for the fact that their loved one has ended up in jail.
When judging an law enforcement organisation, you can't look at individual cases. You have to look at the bigger picture and the fact remains that Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and is the envy of other big cities in this regard.
The problem with Singaporeans is that they have been living in an almost perfect world for far too long. Riots involving a few hundred people happen in the suburbs of Auckland on a regular basis. First response teams have often been met with a barrage of beer bottles and other projectiles and have had to beat a hasty retreat before reinforcements with the appropriate gear are called in.
Let's not jump to ridiculous conclusions just because you don't like some politicians.
The poll results here very telling
If 400++ ahnehs on toddy can whack a bunch of policemen and overturn and burn their cars, think of what 4000 or 40,000 angry sinkies can do to the fucking PAP
Maybe it is time we think of getting back our own country

*"NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
In the old days, if you failed your form three or LCE, you could become a police constable. A form five ‘dropout’ could become a trainee inspector and thereafter go on to become an inspector. Nowadays, the police are better educated than that. Many are university graduates and even have a law degree. But the policemen of the old days were respected, despite their lower education. Today, the police officers are despised, even how highly educated they may be. They no longer command the respect of the public.....What happened to change the public perception of the policeman? What transformed respect for the police officer into contempt? The long and the short of it is the public no longer trusts the police force...."*
That begets a question.
How much of trust do we have for our our own police force?
