http://www.straitstimes.com/GeneralElection/News/Story/STIStory_663138.html
MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew does not consider it a major setback if the People's Action Party (PAP) loses the Aljunied GRC in the election.
He said it would not be 'the end of the world' and the PAP would fight to get it back.
He repeated that Aljunied voters will have to live with the decision for the next five years and___________ 'repent' if they voted in the Workers' Party (WP) team led by Low Thia Khiang, who left his Hougang stronghold to make a push to capture a Group Representation Constituency.
MM Lee was speaking to reporters on a wide-range of issues about this election, including cost of living and the younger generation, at the Radin Mas branch after a meeting with party activists and PAP candidate Sam Tan.
He also said the PAP will not lose in this election, as the only hot-seat is Aljunied.
'If Aljunied decides to go that way, well Aljunied has five years to live and repent,' said MM Lee.
'We accept the verdict of the people, but they must also accept the consequences of their actions. You must expect the PAP to look after PAP constituencies first.'
oh please MM Lee...if Aljunied GRc falls to WP...it is PAP who needs to repent for not listening to the pleas of the middle and low income...
Now PAP tried to pacify the middle and low income by last minute promises...who do u think we are? morons? PAP has lost the trust of the middle income and low income class.
only PAP can show such arrogance & unrepentant sttitude, becos the voters somehow still vote PAP when it comes to the crunch.
But MM Lee is probably right (tho i hate to admit) in the assessment that probably Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC are the only close fights where PAP may lose...
So Voters, if you do not want to end up with zero opposition post 7May - please please VOTE WP.
Agree. You only use the word "repent" before God. Since PAP is not God, there is no need for the voters to repent. They may regret, yet by voting for the Opposition they have not sinned, so please do not take the position of God and pass judgement.
Power can really bring out the worst of people.
Repent ? As in "I am God. You have committed a sin. Now repent ..." No way I can vote for anyone of such a character. But I also do believe such is not the character of all PAP MPs.
Singaporeans should really in the next few years and decades strengthen political opposition, to keep in check such bad character.
Since our wise, learned, octogenarian MM said that it is not considered a major setback if the PAP loses the Aljunied GRC in the coming general election, then voters, you may go ahead to vote WP without fear. On the subject of "repentance", all human beings including MM have to face the Creator and repent on the day they leave this secular world. As to who will "repent" first, only time (and probably age too!) will tell.
Can anyone tell me, while PAP is always behaving in a reactionary manner, demeaning and contradicting and boasting track records?
What can they do better?
Soon, our neighbours will become smarter and with more resources they will overtake us. With this margin closing in, what can the current government do better other than demeaning and boasting?
