Forummers attending the first election rallies, what differences do you notice? My take :
1. PAP rally - like in a neat classroom listening to teachers giving out facts and figures, and exhorting the importance of the future. Dull, sense of urgency, like preparing for important examinations. No excitement, no entertainment, not so happy.
2. Opposition rally - like in a housing estate pasir malam with playground. A bit untidy and unorganised, but exciting, noisy, crowd atmosphere, laughter, entertaining, happy to be part of it.
3. Pap rally is like the Chinese opera or wayang - full of culture, history, morals between good and the evils, lingering after-thoughts and worries when show is over. For the serious-minded.
4. Opposition rally is like a modern getai - full of excitement, drama and entertainment! Anything goes. Lingering after-thoughts - laugh even when asleep!
After the first day, the excitement gets too much. Like poor Nicole when the kitchen gets too hot, better get out of the kitchen! (Nicole Seah stressed by GE...skipped NSP rally)
