Actually it very much depends on PM of the day. There is a provision to be detained without trial under the law for corruption as well. Decades ago, old man gave instruction to detain 2 major transport operators for wholesale bribing of Traffic Police. No trial as he felt that it will tarnish the name of the Police Force.
CPIB does not have a good reputation within the govt. They always seem to pick the wrong chap. They once picked up a chap for driving a Mercedes. Then they find out the car bought by his rich father in law. Simple homework also not done. They only picked him up because he was a Malay working for a Govt agency.
There was a magistrate who left the service to do business and he was entertaining Police Officers openly. The whole world was aware. People waited for years before they finally moved on him. The ex-magistrate despite being middle age died in prison.
Then there is the case of the Singapore "biggest bookie" called "Pal". Anyone who has half a brain will know Singapore top ten bookies has to be Chinese and not an Indian. CPIB thought otherwise. I am sure all decent bookies out there were insulted.

Bro, old fart was terribly disappointed by Teh CW cos he felt like a blardy fool when Teh was exposed for corruption.
I remember old fart went on television to promote Teh as his most trusted cabinet minister during a parliamentary debate. He elaborated

Pal had the connections to players, officials. Being a trusted face, he was one of a few capable of arranging outcome of matches played. He was no boss. He had people behind him providing the funds. Pal took a part of the profit.
