SINGAPORE: Four former officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) were charged on Thursday with accepting bribes for facilitating or granting visit passes that would allow foreigners to prolong their stay in Singapore.

Wonder why ICA did not take preventive action to curb corrupt practices at checkpoints. Junior officers like those charged scumbags should not be allowed to handle applications for permits to enter SG. If such officers were PR themselves, they would not care a hoot who they allowed to enter SG. The Govt is indeed stupid. The cases involved applications to prolong stay in SG, not fresh applications to enter SG. Such corrupt practices are surprisingly quite common in SG but nothing is done to curb it. How many foreigners managed to continue residing in SG to commit crimes, indulge in prostitution, etc? Subversion of any country is a serious matter.

SINGAPORE — Four former officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) were charged today (Jan 9) with accepting bribes for facilitating or granting visit passes that would allow foreigners to prolong their stay in Singapore.

The men — Ezhar Kahmis, 25; Lukmanulhakim Samsun, 29; Mohamed Nazrul Noor Mohamed, 34; and Nor Hidayat Mohamed Hussain, 26 — were ICA Specialists at Tuas Checkpoint.
Their duties included assessing whether foreigners met entry requirements, and granting eligible visitors to Singapore visit passes.

The four men allegedly committed the offences in 2010 and 2011.

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau said investigations revealed that the four men were recruited by former ICA officer Mohammed Mustaffa Mohabat Ali in his scheme to grant visit passes to foreign women to extend their stay in Singapore in return for money.

The four men allegedly received amounts of between S$50 and S$100 for their parts in facilitating and assisting him.

At least one of the men — Nor Hidayat — has indicated he intends to claim trial.

Mustaffa was jailed 21 months in December last year for receiving and giving bribes.

The four men are out on bail of S$10,000 each, and their cases will be mentioned in court next month. CHANNEL NEWSASIA

all civil servants must receive higher pay to ensure that they are not corrupted!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

uncivil servants can be fed to the dogs :p:p:p

This type of lobang exists long ago.
This is only tip of the iceberg.
Another method of how these low level ICA makan coffee money is allowing their bribers to pass the checkpoints during their shifts. This would allow contrabands to be smuggled in.

I disagree with you.

For Immigration staff, Most of them are local-born mats. I think these 4 charged malays are also local-born mats.

However for mcdonalds delivery drivers there is a very huge percentage of malaysian-mats drivers. (although the local-born mats delivery drivers also have a lot).

Last year alone, I had came across at least 3 malay delivery drivers from Mcdonalds they cannot speak english at all. When I told him got item missing, he kept replying back only in Malay and he cannot speak any english.

Noticed that too. What is the reason that local mats n minahs like to work in custom ? IS it becos they are pap supporter or becos is easy job or ?
