Initial police investigations revealed that the maid burned the house belonging to Intan Zunaidah Abdul Wahab at Taman Murni Indah, Telaga Daing in Seberang Takir here, around 10.30am because she was angry at being scolded. "She burned the bedsheet and blanket on a mattress in a bedroom and the kitchen before fleeing," Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Fauzi Abduri told reporters yesterday. It is learnt that Intan Zunaidah, 40, had provided temporary shelter to the maid since last week. She was originally employed by her brother last month. ACP Mohd Fauzi said the maid from Medan was on a four-day remand to help in the investigations.
He added that police were also trying to determine her actual age as her passport showed she was born in 1987, but her employer claimed she was just 14. Meanwhile, Intan Zunaidah denied any abuse even though the maid was not adept at housework.Although many things were destroyed in the fire, she said she did not have ill-feelings towards her and had forgiven the maid. Indonesian Embassy minister counsellor in charge of information, social and culture Widyarka Ryananca said the embassy was trying to get its officers in touch with the maid and obtain counsel for her. As for the maid's age, Widyarka said it could only be confirmed after the officers obtained information from her.
