And Manchuria had always been a part of China. The founding emperors of the Qing dynasty ensured it integrated into the Han culture in order to rule over the massive country.

After the Chinese republic was founded in 1911 the Congress voted on the common spoken dialect/language for the country and Mandarin narrowly won by one single vote. The runner up was Sichuanese.
