Company general manager fined S$38,000 for corruption
SINGAPORE: A general manager who has been convicted of corruption was on Friday fined S$38,000.
59-year-old Choo Boon Sing was also ordered to pay the penalty of S$48,200, the amount he received in bribes from director Ang Thiam Swee between 2007 and 2011.
Choo was the general manager at a manufacturing company, American Equipment Services, at the time of the offences, while Ang was one of three directors at Steel Forming & Rolling Specialists.
The accused had identified Ang's firm as a supplier of metal sheet rolling services and recommended it to his own company, American Equipment Services.
Then some time in 2007, Ang told Choo he wanted to reward him for his help.
Choo accepted the offer as he needed money.
He claimed that he had spent the gratification on family expenses and on feeding his dogs. - CNA/xq
