KNN! 30cents only? what about peak peak hour surcharge which is the real killer?

----------

SINGAPORE: ComfortDelGro, Singapore’s largest cab operator, will be removing the 30—cent diesel surcharge on taxi rides with effect from 6am, November 12.

The company said on Wednesday the move is in light of the recent decline in diesel prices and the weakening economic conditions.

The price of diesel price has dropped from S$1.83 per litre in July, when the surcharge was introduced, to the current S$1.38 per litre.

ComfortDelGro said it would continue subsidising the cost of diesel for its drivers. It spent S$16.2 million on diesel subsidies in the first half of this year.

Newcomer Trans—cab took the lead in announcing on Tuesday that it would remove the 30—cent surcharge on its taxi rides from November 11.

Other taxi companies such as Premier Taxi said the removal of the surcharge will affect the driver’s income, and therefore the matter is still being reviewed.

ComfortDelGro said its taxi associations support the move, but taxi drivers whom Channel NewsAsia spoke to said the move would have an adverse impact on their income.

With the surcharge, taxi drivers who make at least 30 trips a day earn an additional S$9 or more.

Taxi ridership has fallen by 7 per cent to around 921,000 a day from 991,000 in 2006. With the economic downturn, observers expect ridership to drop even more.

The number of taxis plying the roads has, however, grown by 6 per cent in the last two years to about 24,400.

it seems like removing the 30 cents, they have done a fucking big favour for the commuters.
how abt reducing the 21%?

the 21% is a bigger news than the 30cents.

Can any taxi driver tell us the diesel price they get fm their depot?
Let me tell u people, Im getting $1.10 to 1.20 fm legal private pumps,
not Shell, Caltex, mobil. So, there is really not a need for increase in
anything in the first place. Taxi drivers are really a pampered attogant lot,

nowadays passengers need to see taxi driver's face. u flag down the cab during normal timing, not changing shift, never see him put destination sign, he wind down window "WHERE U GO AH?", u reply him your destination, he shake his head "SORRY, NOT CONVENIENT", and then he speed off.

same situation when waiting in the taxi queue also.

nowadays, you buy a small cc car is more economical then taking bus and mrt if you got family. No joke !!

Public transport ????????

့့huh.......when busy time, pick n choose. Like choose wife.
When hit midnite, even dog, elephant, cat or mouse also can.
After 2am, u go Beach Rd Golden Mile, u will see how LOW, LOW
they bend down. Chase down the arriving bus, park in lane 1 or 2 anyhow
and greet alighting passengers, carry their bags, balls, boobs and all.
Its taxi kill taxi, no more ethics ampng themselves.Even the taxi stand no use.
Pui, pui.....all u taxi drivers.Shameful attitudes.Worst than prostitutes.

Hi melzp

I concur that the scene you've described is absolutely true. But it is sad that all taxi drivers are being tarred with the same brush. As in every profession, there will always be a sizeable percentage of people with no regard to preserving a sense of dignity in going about making a living. You have a great example in our national leaders. We are living in a world of the me first mentality.

Exactly, when u apply to be a noble taxi driver, they change u.
"Welcome, u are now yr own bizman", is the greeting,
So, that means "u can chop (customer) the chicken in any way u want it
to be.

Everytime when you see a taxi driver, bring up this. "There but for the grace of God goes I ". That taxi driver is a fellow Singaporeon sheep!

increase 30 cents is very small to them, reduce 30 cents is very big to them.

even this 30 cents i can tell you they are very reluctant to reduce but no choice. A smaller cab company announce the reduction so in order to look good and as market leader, they have to reduce also. If not it will really look bad if they are always the 1st to increase, last to reduce.

eventually their greed will come to a stage they dont even care how they look. they have the 154th to beautified them anyway.
