I am not keen to know the outcome of the COI. I am more interested to know the punishments that will be handled out to the rioters.

How many rotans will each of them get? Remember M. Fay. He got 6 strokes (later reduced to 3 or 4) for vandalising private cars. This one is so much more serious, overturn govt. vehicles, smash and set them on fire.

My dear and esteemed friends of these Forum page, please let us not view the race of the appointee who is chosen to head the COI with such uncalled for remarks..

We are all Singaporeans and race should not be the basis to separate us.

We have done national service, slept in army camps and eaten the same food in the messes with members of all the communities that form Singapore.

Since young, we have played, gone to same schools, found happiness, shared sadness and suffered togather as a common Singapore community.

In the past policemen of all races laid down their lives for the Singapore community.

Our Singapore Infantry Regiment comprising of all races went to Brunei during the Undeclared War.

We attend 7th Moon Dinners, Thaipusam festivals and wedding occassions togather.

All races come as friends and supporters during any bereavement - be it Toaist, Buddhist, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs or Jews.

We give donations to victims of catastrophic events as a common people.

Even our Singaporeans of all races in prisons stay togather.

So please do not bring out race at this point of time.

Who is heading the COI and who are the others on board should not become a divisive issue, especially now.

Let us learn from these sad episode and move on.

I am sure the Government of the day would also have learnt much from their mistakes in over-dependence on foreigners.

Hopefully, the thought of increasing the population to 7 million will become now appear as a spectre that is waiting to cause more problems to Singapore.

Why do they need to placate the Ah Neh community ? If you are talking about local Indians , are they that vocal ? Are they that powerful ? If you are talking about the immigrant Indians please realize the Indian professionals here who are not South Indian look down on the Serangoon Road denizens even more than you. Apart from curry they have little in common. If you were to ship all the banglas, and ah nehs back home they would be more than happy. The immigrants have come here to escape the mess back home they don't enjoy having the Serangoon Road Ah Nehs remind them of that. Many of them never even go there.

They need Indians on the panel who speak the language and understand the culture so as to deter accusations of unfairness. The COI will have to look at interviews from the Indians there on the ground whether they are part of the mob or otherwise.

You guys are missing the main issue. ALL the members of the COI are from the establishment - the law and order fraternity plus labour lackeys and grassroots toadies. Not a single independent member. The COI would have more credibility if they included an opposition MP like Sylvia or an NMP. There is a high probability that the G will use the COI to further every agenda they have in double quick time. Liquor licensing, online media etc, police powers, surveillance, you name it.

Soon they will have a Leader" among themselves and who may rename the island as a separate nation.

He will get advisors from the Sulu Sultanate,hoist their flag, send people to the UN and in no time create a special place for themselves.

It would be better to give them a computer, send them home and allow them to work for us from home.

Leave our islands and Singapore for oursleves.

Exactly dude. There are billions of them there. Half the work they do here could be easily done there. We could have gone there and employed hundreds of thousands of them without shipping them over. The mass immigration only benefits the rent seekers (you know who). Once they are embedded here try turning it around.

Many incidents in the past where kind-hearted Singaporeans allow these people to saty with them. When they told them to move off, trouble followed.

The same would be here is the authorities told them to go home.

We are in the same situation as the kind-hearted land-lord mentioned in Line 1 above.

The only difference here is that the MOM, land-lords, alcohol shops and restaurants make money from these people.

And oh yes, the Indon, Pinay and other ladies of the night.
