Dethroned Miss Singapore World Ris Low has demonstrated once again why she was unfit to represent Singapore in the Miss World pageant by stunning her talk hosts and audience alike with liberal use of vulgarities on the Shan + Rozz show by radio station 98.7:
At 1:56 minute of the video clip above, Ris Low said:
“…of course, it is another word for ‘f**k’”
to which Rozz repeated:
“how do you differentiate it from f**k?” (Rozz repeated the word again at 5:18 minute)
At 3:59 minute, Ris said:
“Ris Low created the word ‘boomz’ and now everybody is using it instead of ‘f**k’”
But these expletives pale in comparison to the Hokkien vulgarity she uttered at 4:45 minute in response to a question by Rozz about her thoughts when a reporter asked her a stupid question:
“In my head, I was like KNN CCB!”
It is already appalling enough to hear so much Singlish being spoken on a radio-talk show, let alone a slew of vulgarities!
Mediacorp should have vetted the video clip carefully and censor the segments during which the obscenities are uttered before posting it on Youtube where it was already watched by more than 38,000 viewers.
What will foreigners think about Singapore girls when they hear Ris and Rozz speaking the “f**k” word one after another?
Perhaps the government should start a “Speak no vulgarities” campaign instead of a “Speak Good English” campaign.
While it may be acceptable to use expletives in private conversations, it is unbecoming for Mediacorp to air them openly in its talk-shows. Is Mediacorp endorsing the use of “f**k” and “KNN CCB” as part of our lingua franca?
On a side note, Ris Low mentioned during the interview that she is currently studying English under a NUS professor courtesy of a sponsorship from the National Library Board.
She also claimed that she had to increase her “A cup” to a “C cup” during the pageant.
It is truly amazing how the organizers managed to select her as a winner. Is this the best Singapore can get?
If there is a Miss Singapore Lian pageant, Ris Low will surely win it hands down anytime.
