KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s declared desire to join the Brics grouping – most recently espoused during a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Kuala Lumpur on July 28 – is deepening concerns over whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is leaning away from Western powers.

In his 20 months in power, Datuk Seri Anwar has staunchly condemned the United States and other allies of Israel over the prolonged conflict in Gaza, and repeatedly defended Beijing against “China-phobia”.

On May 30, Google said it would invest US$2 billion in Malaysia to develop its first data centre there.

Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Janil Puthucheary noted an increasing number of data centres are required to support the computing power capacity essential for technological needs, such as the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems.


“But with our energy and carbon constraints, this growth of capacity can only be realised if we can make the data centres more sustainable,” said Dr Janil, who attended the event on Jun 3.

“We are committed to growing the (data centre) sector to be more sustainable,” he said, pointing to the launch of the country’s Green Data Centre Roadmap on May 30.

Launched by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat at the Asia Tech x Singapore event, the new road map includes plans to add 300MW of data centre capacity here in the coming years, with another 200MW allocated only for operators using green energy options.

Green standards outlined in the road map include ways to improve energy efficiency by upgrading equipment, in addition to reducing the energy required for air-conditioning by safely raising the operating temperature to 26 deg C.

Singapore has more than 70 data centres, with 1.4 gigawatts of capacity.

These currently account for 82 per cent of Singapore’s information and communications sector emissions, and 7 per cent of its total electricity consumption.

What exactly are BRICS monetary system & BACKED UP with? - invasion, slaughtering/decimating innocents, poor labor laws that robs one of dignity & pride reduced to begging on knees with tears for non-existent compensation, corruption, stealing from funders, etc as proven over time & time again in Humankind history since BRIC blarney began akin to scam set cryptos?

What GUARANTEES do they give to earn the trust of the saving public, over time & not hyped up propaganda for the day to entice naive?

If BRIC monetary system is as great as those failing & irresponsibly led nations backing it up, WHY is the take up rate so low?

Money trusted into BRICS are hard earned over years - one's life savings & corporate earnings...Thus may each consider carefully with eyes wide opened....any changes within BRIC monetary system may RENDER one's savings decline to lowest value or worse into nothing...
