Church leader gets $500k

Why are people getting so worked up over this issue? The only people who should have any say in the matter are the members of Prince's church, the congregation who have donated tithes and offerings. If Prince's congregation is happy, let them be, it is their money afterall.

It seems like the concept of religious development for personal growth of being selfless in a wise way is in conflict with this church's doing.

That is why people are so worked up over it.

Well, it actually did not say Rev Prince got 500k,,, an employee of New Creation Church,,,

Methodist Church Bishop I think get 600k over 5 years, 120k/year,,,,,

Anglician Bishop how much I dunno,,,,,

Not bad for man of Cloth,,,,

How much does the Catholic Archbisop earn a year? or Rev Kong Hee?

Perhaps, but doesn't everyone have the right to choose? If these people want to follow Prince and donate tithes and offerings of their own volition, who are we to judge.

Hey far be it for me to judge M Teresa of all people. But I was just pointing out an ironical observation.

Returning to the general topic at hand, perhaps people should also consider that money can be used for good.

Does not matter, she did it for her "god", not for money. That is why she got so much respect from many.:)

I started this thread does not imply that spiritual leaders must lead a pauper life, but in Singapore as a spiritual leader or church worker takings of something like 500K, kinda excessive isn't it?

Yup,

That is why I did say that that fellow who earns 120k a year from church will get alot of respect from me if he helps out alot more for the poor. He keeps all he needs for himself and give away the rest.

By the way, God need no money. People do.

Suddenly this song comes to mind.

well, i think he deserve it as he build up the church from scratch and it needs a person withi big iq and eq to be able to attract such big followers.

at least he work hard for it and preach every week...unlike the President who did nothing to really equate his almost 4 millions salary..

so $500k is really compare the $4KK...

The salary is not the only income. The way new age churches work is that top dog in the hierachy is the man himself with no other higher organisation or individual. The top dog also collects royalty and it comes in many forms. It usually runs into the millions each year.

Ho from Harvest many years I understand reduced his salary to such a low amount to stop gossip. In his case, the company supplies all religious items for which the church pays as well as royalty. In the end he is the ultimate beneficiary and it runs into millions each year.

Wow, even religion in Sg can be turned into such a money-spinner.

I wonder if these men of religion are exempt from tax? Given the obscene amounts they are earning, they should be made to contribute to charity work at the very least.

Have to disagree with you bro.

To me this is no different to NKF run by Durai or Raffles Town Club run by the previous gang of 4 or now the gang of 2.

The bulk of the congregation has no clue what top man and the top people make. They will be shocked just as Singapore were shocked when less than 10 cents from the dollar went to kidney patients. They honestly believe that the church belongs to god and they are joint beneficiary to all its assets.

I still know couple of high ranking people that think they own part of Raffles Town Club like Tanglin or SCC.

In the US, the bible belt runs right thru the least educated part of the country and the reason is obvious.

I am aware there are Perm Sec and Sr individuals that are in these chuches and are none the wiser.

In fact one very Sr Person was charged in court many years for defrauding on invoices on behalf of the church. Poor lady had to go to jail.

I know the PAP finds this ideal as these are apolitical and the congregation are like sheep because they know the tax regime can be changed at any moment. Ever see any of these churches involved in human rights etc.

You have your point. what i mean is that now, you need $$ to do anything.
If you want to save someone , help the poor, sponsor the poor student to continue his/her study, provide home for the aged. Where do we get money from? Pray like mother teresa? How many people can she help?

Please do not misunderstand their motive.
Based on what they preach, God want us to get rich so that we can bless and give to others. How a poor man give and bless others?
Thus, it is the reality that if we need to attract rice and powerful people, we need to be one ourselves.
Thus, many church leader need to draw in smart Boss/Armani clothing so that they can related to the rich/powerful/famous in Singapore.
Lets give them our support!!!

That's the apologetics used by some.

I hate apologetics - it starts from an ending position and argue its way to the front.

And turn what is man-serving into God-serving.

To answer your question on "how can a poor man give and bless others", i point you to three examples:

(1) Jesus: "Foxes have holes and birds have nests. The Son of Man has no place to lay his head";

(2) Peter: "Silver and Gold have I none. But what I have, I give to you. In the name of Jesus, get up and walk"

(3) Paul: "For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain"

Compare therefore these three men who did not earn $500,000, live in luxurious condos and drive $300,000 cars and ask yourself what sort of blessings had they given to others?

Hi kakowi.
Well, its very obvious we deserve that type of reward, isnt it? Do not tell me is the cleaner at the toilet?
This whole business is about demand and supply. if there is a demand of god words, there is supply of $$ so that they can be part of it. Just look at the crowd at CHC or NCC and the old family church and you find the different. If the teenages or Gen X need this kind of attraction to attract them to the church, then be it. Its like open a Super store, the main focus is not to tell the whole world that you have the best store or the cheapest sales, its getting the crowd to come to your store first. if no people come to your store, your message will not be getting over to anyone, isnt it?

You are so right in this matter.

I wish more can be said but it will be in the vein of TT Durai's travelling first class - it was a fact but you try proving that when you are not the Straits Times.
