Batam plus Bintang and all the southern islands and link them all up by causeway so that the sea can eventually be converted to reservior.
Then Singapore can accommodate 30 million people with the Singapore Island as the capital city.

Just rename Sg as Temasek, establish itself as capital of Riau Archipelago and claim all these islands plus central Sumatra and South Malay Peninsula. Can give autonomy to the Bataks and whoever wants to be part the the Alliance.

Christmas Island is about the size of AMK plus Sembawang GRCs. However, it's population is about one typical block of 3-room flats only. Yes, one block. Less than 2,000 population. Nobody wants to migrate there, not even Australians immigration-free entry. It's not near to Singapore or Australia. It's near to Java, Indonesia. By air or by sea, Singapore has to pass Java airspace or sealane before reaching Christmas Island, Australia didn't have to though it's not that near too. Christmas Island was administered from Singapore under UK colonial government when Holland a friendly ally was still holding Indonesia (Dutch East Indies). After Indonesian independence, it became unfeasible and UK "sold" it to Australia. Singapore actually had no say in this.

The Territory of Christmas Island is a territory of Australia in the Indian Ocean. It is located 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) northwest of the Western Australian city of Perth, 360 km (220 mi) south of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and 975 km (606 mi) ENE of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
It has a population of 1,403 residents who live in a number of "settlement areas" on the northern tip of the island: Flying Fish Cove (also known as Kampong), Silver City, Poon Saan, and Drumsite.
The island’s geographic isolation and history of minimal human disturbance has led to a high level of endemism among its flora and fauna, which is of significant interest to scientists and naturalists.[2] 63% of its 135 square kilometres (52 sq mi) is an Australian national park. There exist large areas of primary monsoonal forest.
Phosphate, deposited originally as dead marine organisms (not guano as often thought), has been mined on the island for many years.

Yes the big red robber crabs colonise the whole island....they are everywhere.
But alas sinkies will lament that they are inedible
Was in perth recently and was hanging out with a few ex-Singapore friends who originated from Christmas Island. They said that when Australia took over the island, all the inhabitants were given a choice between becoming Singapore citizens or Australians. Because of the situation then, most became Australians overnight. Most of them were kampong folks.
