The operating word is converts. Note the bold words below. There were other christians in the company, those born into christianity but they behaved like any others. Its was not christianity that was the issue, it was the converts.

A priest once told me that converts needed to handled differently. Cradle christians, hindu, muslims, catholics etc were immersed into religion by following their parents and family values became intertwined into religion. Converts don't have that benefits and become prone to interpreting religion in many ways.

The similar thing happenned to a group of muslims who were converted from mainstream to a fundamental version that is the wrong interpretation of religion. The company mutinied and ran into the forest around Macritchie reservoir.

There is nothing wrong with christianity, just the few assholes who can't think for themselves.

Since we on currently on this topic, I should relate an interesting event while in OCS donkey years ago.

Everynight a small group of converts would meet as part of fellowship but they did not bother anyone. Those who were keen to find out more, could approach them. A decent bunch and mixed well with others. In time people noticed that the biggest asshole and sabo king in the company joining this lot.

This guy had serious issues including hoarding hardboiled eggs in his cupboard until RSM broke it open due to the smell of some going rotten.

For some odd reason, company commander decided to hold a ranking ballot to determine who was popular and who was not and everyone had to rank the whole company in order. Immediately, everyone knew the sabo king would be placed last.

When the results came out, our sabo king came out in the top half to the shock of many. Company Commander who had to counsel this chap on many occasions realised that something was a amiss and went thru the votes.

Our motley fellowship group realised that they had to save him and placed on top of the ballot and went even further by placing the more popular ones below.

To cut a long story short, this guy was caught shoplifting while serving his NS , had his officer rank removed and moved to SCDF.

Till today, no has had any respect for the motley group that was supposedly following the word of god.

It just reminded me the new exco of AWARE has similar powers of reasoning.

here i have to take issue with you...because what you claim is too generalised and broad based...there are many rational sensible mature moderate christians out there of all denominations locally and world wide...same goes for any other faith...
