SINGAPORE: Subway Singapore has been officially certified halal by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the sandwich chain announced on Friday (Aug 31).
In an emailed statement, Subway Singapore said all but one of its restaurants across Singapore will begin to display the the halal certificate from Saturday.

The exception is the company’s outlet at Wisteria Mall in Yishun, which Subway said “is still in the application process”.
Subway said the official certification is part of its latest efforts in “bringing the Subway experience” to “everyone in the broader community”.
The chain, which originates from the United States, stressed that food sold at all Subway Singapore outlets is now in compliance with Halal requirements.
As part of its process in obtaining the halal certificate, Subway told Channel NewsAsia that all of its outlets across Singapore had to undergo ritual cleansing.

As part of MUIS’ requirements, outlets also have to have at least two Muslim employees.
Subway added that it had to replace all of its pork-based products with chicken and beef.
Additionally, all of the products in Subway outlets, including non-pork proteins like beef, chicken, tuna, and turkey, had to be replaced with halal-certified options.
In March, the company announced that it was applying for halal certification and all of its outlets in Singapore would stop selling pork with immediate effect.
After the announcement, Subway was criticised by some netizens for removing pork from its menu completely.

Because of a rotten tree, the whole forest are disinfected. Because of a minority, the majority are offended.

One of the perks of getting halal. Even for my halal kitchen, I have to give preferential hiring for m&ds or keling muslims. This is over and above paying money to directly fund mosque activities and contribute towards the salaries of the islamic clerics.

My other kitchens are not required to contribute anything towards the salaries of priests, monks, bishops and pastors.

They should go one step further and only allow Muslim customers.....

Another case of the tail wagging the dog. The majority have to bow to the will of 15%.

They must now also follow the footsteps of Crave Nasi lemak & The Landmark Halah Buffet and make their stores dirty & unhygienic in line with being halah.

Good bye Subway. It'll be a matter of time before it closes down. Business went downhill since they tweak their ingredients and going halal means more customers will stop going to subway. Instead of looking to improve their food and service, they went the other way.

Yup...sandwich bars are a dime in a dozen...I can go for non HALAL options easily

SINGAPORE: When Subway Singapore announced on Friday evening (Aug 31) that it was officially halal certified, the online reaction was intense.
Many people expressed strong support for the sandwich chain's decision, but others protested that going halal had removed their favourite pork and bacon options from Subway's menu.

But the company saw this coming. Subway's Southeast Asia country director Mr Samad Mohd Shariff told Channel NewsAsia in an interview before Friday's announcement that there was "bound to be initial apprehension" over its halal certification.

Now we know why. m&ds always like to mix regions into whatever they do.

There is a strong belief that fast food should cater to m&ds bcos they r the best customer for McDonald's etc. However m&ds like to eat deep fried food etc which subway don't really have. I doubt subway will appeal to m&ds. Even in middle East....deep fried stuff n burgers r popular. I doubt subway type sandwiches will do well.

I no eat religious affiliated food. Any outlet that have any religious theme is out..... because of my religion.

I don't patronise any stalls, that hangs pictures of the winning awards posing with medicorpse stars or any other, worse, if they pose with PAP ministers etc... they food definitely overhyped & overpriced...I give my business elsewhere.

cold cut trio will be converted to using turkey and chicken. sianz!

Subway will go belly up soon. The maket share for its fast food (halal operations) cannot cover its business costs.
Halal kitchen ,halal crockery (cups, plates, pots, etc),halal cooking utencils, halal muslim workers, etc are additional business costs.

Perhaps the real reason why Subway zikapore switched to halal. It's main director is a muslim.

Ha, this explains it. Next, he'll be distributing jihadist pamphlets with every sandwich sold to m&ds.

no wonder it closed shop

Food should be treated just as food to be eaten without any religious prohibitions or taboos!

The Muslims should just ban themselves from eating any other places except their own homes, food cooked in mosques and other muslim strictly eateries.
