Re: Chiobu Today reporter: Former Civil Service high-flier says Government has lost
When I was young, I never attended school because my family was too poor. I was wandering the filthy streets until the age of 15, when a catholic sister took me under her wing and tutored me in all subjects. Within a week I learnt how to read and spell. It opened the door of the magical world of maths and science to me. The next year I was instantly enrolledinto college based on my straight A1 scores. Not satisfied, I took on extra curricular projects like implementing micro loans for farmers in 3rd world countries. At university, I debated against representatives from top regional universities and won the best speaker award. Those were really the crazy days. I still remember in the middle of my Everest expedition, I performed an open heart surgery on the sherpa guide when he suffered a massive massive coronary. When I decided medicine was not my calling, I read all the business books available and, in a single semester, graduated in commerce with honours.
My 4th company just went IPO and I am a scratch golfer. In fact, I am piloting my Cessna to Sarawak tomorrow for a game with my good friends Camilo villegas and Lance armstrong. After that we will be attending Prince william's stag party.
Reducing the student/teacher ratio by half isn't going to do a damned thing for young minds. An idiot is an idiot whether the ratio is 40:1 or 1:1.
Smart people don't even need teachers. I was hardly ever in class during my school days as I was heavily involved in ECA. However, my grades did not suffer one iota. I simply went home, read the relevant chapters and did the homework. In fact, I did twice the amount of homework without being asked.
