I totally agree with you on this. Based on Edward Snowden's revelations of NSA's mass surveillance programme I have now come to despise USA for her hypocrisy. And you know what, the civil war in Syria is part of America's plan to weaken Iranian influence. The CIA in Jordan has been actively helping and training Syrian rebels on how to use American weapons.
You're right about the hypocrisy.
At the height of the McCarthyite withchunt, the US spied extensively on its own citizens as well as students deemed to be left-wing. The armed forces, Hollywood, academia, arts and music circles were not spared. This paranoia was repeated during the decade-long Vietnam War where anti-Vietnam Ivy League student protesters, radical student organizations and conscript evaders all had thick dossiers with the FBI.
We're again seeing this extensive privation of rights in post-911 America, where now young adults, students and again academia are being targeted, particularly those who are Muslim and naturalized, native-born Muslim blacks with not the slightest link to Osama and his ilk, and even non-Muslims and Christians hailing originally from Islamic lands (e.g. naturalized US citizens of Indonesian Chinese Christian ancestry).
People who live glasshouses should not throw stones.
