Chinese Ed helicopter

do u agree that singapore has poor spoken english standard? agree or disagree?

If compared to your so-called perfect high standard of English or Mandarin in the academic sense, maybe no. (Does not serve any purpose unless you are a strict academic).

However, the fact that current Singaporeans can speak both English and Manadarin fairly well, makes business sense.

In a global business setting, deals are made by businessmen from different regions. In this sense, I find that Singaporeans has done well.

In a way, the gahmen may be seen as having foresight, intentionally or accidentally, may be open to debate !!

Nobody talking about high standard English or Mandarin in the academic sense. Its about basic grasp of a language.

Here is cut and paste from the speak good english campaign site. What is it about:

The Speak Good English Movement is a nationwide movement to encourage Singaporeans to speak grammatically correct English that is universally understood. It is to get Singaporeans to speak English with confidence at work, at home and at play. The movement was launched in the year 2000 by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Main Aims The central message of the movement is to get Singaporeans to:

1. Speak in Standard English so as to be understood by all English speakers in this globalised and highly-interconnected world.
2. Pay attention to accurate pronunciation. However, this is not about acquiring a new foreign accent.

Which brings me to the point that I try to make. The current language policy of the PAP govt, it had brought us to a stage whereby we cant have some basic standard either in english or 2nd language. Both our english and 2nd language are below par. Sub par standard.

The current language policy had crippled Singaporeans language standard, crippled Singaporeans language ability.

From having a good grasp of at least one language, we go down to a level whereby we are no good in any languages. Isn't that a regression?

Shouldn't Singapore Govt and Singaporeans do something about our language standard? Or close eyes and wank ourselves silly, thinking we are good in both english and 2nd language?

Gotta face reality before we talk about 'improving on it and supplementing it for the better'. If we are in delusional mode, thinking we are good in both english and 2nd language, there would be no reform in our language policy.

There're Speak Mandarin campaigns and Speak English campaigns.

In this current realistic economic world, sufficient knowledge in different languages is better than knowing only one language.

Remember what you said earlier that the Chinese Ed helicopter are outcasts and the fallen ??

You fucking twit !!

What is " basic " ??

Nee Ser Sar Gwa ?? Everyone knows ??

or Sec 4 "O" levels P3 ?? Good enough ??

Outcast and fallen ONLY IN SINGAPORE CONTEXT.

Go to speak good english campaign site, and read what are they trying to achieve. Those are the basic. Which means Sporeans cant even speak basic standard of english.

There're Speak Mandarin campaigns and Speak English campaigns.

English is the first language of many sporeans. And with that, we still need to have speak good english campaign. What does it tell us? We don't even have a basic grasp of spoken english. Thats pathetic. Thats the reality, the result of our language policy.

There're always Singaporeans who speak good English, as well as Singaporeans who don't speak good English. There's nothing wrong with providing a campaign for those who don't.

What's your definition of "we" and "basic grasp"?

If this is the case, here is an interesting scenario :

Bi-lingual Customer : Can I have prawn mee ?

Chinese Helicopter female mee seller : Er ... er ... Izzit you sai ... nee yau my "sia mian":

Bilingual Customer : no ... you piece of filth ... I don't want your cunt !!:D:D

The existence of the speak good english campaign shows that there's a problem in our spoken english in this society. Thats why the campaign.

That means we have sub par spoken english standard in our society.

In any country, the govt would not have a speak good first language campaign, isn't it? When there's a problem with our spoken first language, something is seriously wrong isn't it? i don't know why do we have to go round and round on this...

Harlo. English is our first language. And when we sucks in our first language (spoken), that means something is seriously wrong. Shouldn't the country the govt the people take stock of what is happening now with our language standard and do something about it??

The Speak Good English or Mandarin campaigns has achieved its objective which is to upgrade the standard of the languages for common men and women !!

So what is your beef ??

To re-iterate , you are the one who said that the Chinese Helicopters are the fallen and outcasts. Does bilingualism addresses that ??

Its because PAP govt is running this country. They deem Chinese educated are lower caste. Take for instance. LKY had chosen GCT to be PM rather than OTC. He had publicly talk about why he did that, the reason is because he thinks OTC has got poor english standard. He LKY penalize OTC because of OTC english standard.

Thats PAP style. Singapore style. Not necessary means that OTC is less capable than GCT.

Its in Singapore context, the Chinese ed are the outcast, the fallen. Uniquely Singapore.

Is the chief reason, that the Chinese helicopters have too much pride and refuse to learn to meet the changing linguistic requirements of the modern world ??

For your info, the PRC workers at my foodcourts, who do not have an inkling of English is studying hard to at least learn the "BASICS" of the English language .... which is only differentiating prawn mee vis-a-vis the CUNT !!:D:D
