Trump Says Xi Called Him About Tariffs: “Not a Sign of Weakness”

In a fiery new interview with Time, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping personally called him as both nations push toward a potential tariff deal.

Trump confirmed active negotiations are underway, despite Beijing disputing Washington’s version of the talks.

“I don’t think that’s a sign of weakness on his behalf,” Trump said confidently.

He hinted at a breakthrough, teasing that multiple deals may roll out within weeks.

“There’s a number at which they’ll feel comfortable — but we can’t let them make a trillion dollars off us.”

Is this diplomacy in motion or another trade war twist?

I don't think Xi Jinping called. Not after Trump said this -

I believe Canada, Europe too are not in discussion. It's not just China.

Countries, are pivoting away from US. Including Japan.

You may want to check the Chinese news agency Xinhua for updates on China-US matters. If there's no report, it's likely that the issue does not exist.

Don't be a cock.
No one will pivot away from USA. Unless China suddenly becomes the greatest importing nation and their 1.4billion people becomes the consumer economy.
Creating value and untold wealth.

You just look at how china is doing now. The real estate is crumbling. Average Joe on the road are in real debt. No money even to spend on their own produce. Unrest, weak law and it's rule by law. Corruption at every level.

Donnie's 3 golden rules taught by his mentor Roy Cohn:
1. always attack,
2. never admit wrongdoing,
3. always claim victory, even if defeated

It doesn't matter who called who.

The CCP govt are Chinese with 5000yrs of recorded history in Human Civilization, & FACE is VALUED above ALL. Comprehensible as the huge landmass of China with 1.4Billion mouths to feed & control. Any loss of such pride may result the end of CCP govt govt as confidence in those in power will be lost & the consequences will be everyone for themselves, provinces fragmented & Warlords with huge amount of weapons & troops will rule....

What ULTIMATELY matters are the RESULTS of such quiet negotiations, to uplift lives on both sides, so that BOTH the American People & the Chinese People gets to eat & put food on the table for themselves & loved ones & so too the rest of planet Earth's inhabitants....screw pride.

CCP govt officials will say he so says & the other side on negotiations will say otherwise.... sadly, such is the way of negotiations, more so from those whom have transparent democratic institutions & others whom prefer to hide behind bamboo curtains to save face/pride... as said, it MATTERS not who says what. What matters are what happens next, that would uplift lives.....

My sincere apologies for this song which the insignificant nobody me had been unable to find exact translation, but perhaps others within Administrations Worldwide may be able to do far better so. It is meaningful song & may help in a small way towards negotiations for a better World based upon trade, the lifeblood for Humankind to progress & evolve....

China is the biggest consumer nation you twit!
Hermes, Prada, YSL, BMW, Mercedes used to sell more in China than the US before EV's dominate the market. Nissan was save from bankruptcy due to China market. Now that market is gone as EV's flood with new gadgets and high standards, Nissan is in big trouble again.

US unilaterally revoke agreements and understanding so there is no point discussing with such rogue arrogant nation.

Before imposing tariffs, the US may have conducted a simulation to predict China's response.
The initial assumption was that China would be the first to concede and initiate trade talks, with other countries following suit. However, this expectation was short-lived.
When the US announced its tariffs, China surprisingly refused to back down and instead retaliated with equal measures. This unexpected counterattack left the US president, Trump, feeling frustrated and confused. He had been expecting a call from China to discuss a possible resolution, but the wait only led to further retaliation. As the situation escalated, Trump increased the tariffs to unprecedented levels, while claiming that negotiations were progressing smoothly.
However, the Chinese media disputed this claim, stating that there had been no discussion or planned meeting between the two parties.
Trump's continued bluffing has left the situation in a state of uncertainty.
