Hitler was smart to trick Japan into the war.

China and Japan will never go to war. Maybe just huge protests from both sides.

Contrary to popular beliefs, China needs Japan as well for their survival. Japanese companies are the one providing the jobs for the ordinary Chinese folks while Chinese labour is the reason why Japanese companies can keep cost down.

War is too difficult to happen when both sides have vested economic interest. Politics and business never go hand in hand.

If there is a war between Japan and China, that will be the end of Japan. Already Japan's economy is suffering and losing out to other Asian competitors, not least Korea. If Japan does not start to make friends with its Asian neighbours and tap into their markets, the anemic markets of USA and Europe cannot save them.

there wont be war lah. only fools start war. sun zi list war as the last resort, it always best to win by other means.

there plenty of ways to screw japan. one way is to closed the south china sea and japan economy collapse within 6 months, use NK to shoot more ICBMs over japan, conduct excerise with SK at japan sea, make use of the huge number of chinese nationals legal or illegally in japan as 5th column, support russia claim over the nothern islands etc etc...

anyway, all the china claims of islands come at the time where there going to be a change of leadership in PRC, it basically a distraction to the PRC citizens from the problems the leadership change are causing. by next year, the new PRC leadership to focus on mending fences with all neighbouring countries.

that new, i always tot it the other way round.

If Japan were to get into the War, it would have to be on the side of Germany and whether Japan attacked a Russian territory depended on what Germany would do in Europe. But Soviet and Japan had a Neutrality Agreement due to earlier clashes in Manchuria which had a direct influence on Japan's final decision not to attack Soviet but to attack South East Asia instead. Also Germany had strategically delayed any aggressive action on the Soviet at that time. Germany also did not participate in the Pacific War and Japan was left to fight it all by itself which was what Germany had wanted: to engage USA so that they were less able to participate in the Atlantic War.

I see it as both sides will suffer. If China goes to war, the people will go into chaos, which is problematic as the govt has been trying to quell the unrest from the anti-Japanese protests. Many of the Chinese people will take the chance to hold the government to ransom, maybe demanding higher pay and better treatment before going against Japan. The Uighur and Tibetans will be more than happy to take advantage and start proclaiming independence. Furthermore, the Chinese infrastructure and rule of law is still weak. Will take another 10 - 20 years before it will be sound.

Furthermore, the CCP is facing an internal squabble, with Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao being targeted by the powerful youth groups and leftists. The youth cadres are unhappy that the duo has failed to carry out substantial reform during their reign while the leftists are seething with the arrest of Bo Xilai. It is one of the first, when during a handover of power, that the ground is relatively unstable. The CCP and PLA are jostling for influence, when by right, the PLA is subordinate to the CCP.I don't think China will even want to go to war against Japan, they might actually be the bigger loser because they are also facing an economic recession.

There are a lot of underlying problems in China that most have failed to see past the economic boom.

Protest all they want and be patriotic all they want. When Japanese firms have vacancy for only one vacancies, they will receive tens of thousands of applicants as witnessed few years back when i was stationed in Beijing!

by 5 december 1941, wehremht was within sight of moscow. when japanese attack pearl harbour, hitler was as surprise as roosvelt. the japanese convince hitler to delcare war on america, hitler did so thinking the japanese will attack soviet from the east. in the end, the japanese screwed hitler by attacking the southern resources area while letting US freighters bearing soviet flag to sent supplies from US or Canada west coast to the soviet far east ports. stalin just maintain a force of 700k to keep the 1.5m kwangtung army honest while he unleased 6million troops against the germans.

up to that moment, hitler had been reining in his u-boot commanders from giving US the excuse to delcare war.

Great Britain went to war with Argentina over the Fawlands 30 years ago eventhough the disputed island was thousands of miles from the British Isles. By comparison, Diaoyu is at China's doorstep and you expect China, now an economic and military power, to do nothing?

And yes, everyone knows going to a war will set China back many years economically. But if negotiations and all diplomacy fail then the only option is war. Looking at the conditions in Japan today, being the weaker party, they will eventually have to back off .....

you twit!

japan is the 2nd largest world economy(according to stats many years ago), if they fight, the whole world will be affected. unlikely, when i was in china, in shanghai, not all chinese are against the jap especially the gen X and Y, it's only the ah kong generation is still grudging against the jap. it seems the media over-portray the whole china against the jap, there are also many manufacturing plants in china, more likely the chinese are mind fucking the jap. i dislike the fact that the nihon leaders still paying respect to their world war 2 leaders which make them look not remorseful of what they have done. on the other hand, the japs and like the germans are trying to make amendments for what they have done in world war 2.

let them have a long & protracted fight, than manufacturing & industry can go to other countries, their lost, our gain!

Conflict will bring Taiwan and China together. Both countries are against Japan. Japan is the one rattling sabre by "buying" these islands.

japan always have very calculated move. don't underestimate their tora tora tora. in fact, they know the whole island of japan is gone after the fukushima disaster. everything is gone.....so they will start their manchurian incident and then they will try once again to build a Greater Atmosphere.

But things are different now. Not easy now to easily go and attack, kill, slaughter and occupy others. Not easy. If Japan tries, it will meet its Waterloo this time. and everyone is waiting to seek vengence for the past horrendous misdeeds....so Japan better be a good boy and don't mess things...but i think it has no choice but to expand.

There are a lot of underlying problems in China that most have failed to see past the economic boom.

The fact that verbal and character attacks on China had increased in the past couple of years, even from closely associated territories like Hongkong and Singapore has made the Chinese people a more nationalist lot, something never seen for a long time. This cannot be disregarded.

Don't forget Korea. Korea is becoming like a second China to the US and Koreans are sensing it. They seem to have also shifted their positioning lately.

This is more the middle game when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour and engaged the Americans in a Pacific War. This was what Hitler had wanted so that USA had no resources to engage in the Atlantic arena. What surprised Hitler was that America felt officially drawn into the war and in fact stepped up its involvement in the Atlantic from passive supplying of arms, supplies etc to actual engagement with actual armed forces.

I was not referring to this period. I was referring to an earlier period after Japan attack of China and when both Japan and Germany had Neutrality agreements with the Soviet. Japan decided to move down south to South East Asia to secure its secure its supply sources (their traditional supplies were from USA which were being denied). Both France and Britain were too engaged with the Atlantic war that USA had to step in to thwart the Japanese's advance. This was exactly what Hilter had wanted. Pearl Harbour changed all that.
