Chee Soon Juan to do a series of radio shows in US

Throughout this week Dr Chee Soon Juan will go on a series of radio shows in America. Some of these shows, such as Air America, are heard nationwide whereas others air regionally across a few states.

One of the interviews will be with Mr Ron Reagan who hosts his own programme on Air America called The Ron Reagan Show which airs live in the US during the evening rush-hour. Mr Reagan is the son of the late Ronald Reagan, former president of the US.

Dr Chee will also be interviewed by veteran talk show host Lionel Lipshitz on The Lionel Show, a highly-rated programme heard across the nation. The show's website has featured the interview which will take place today.

The show highlights Dr Chee's interview with the title 'Please take note, POTUS' (President of the United States) and gives listeners a taste of the subject of the interview (see here).

The interviews come on the eve of President Barack Obama's visit to Singapore for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting from 12-14 Nov 09.

Dr Chee intends to highlight the lack of political rights of Singaporeans, including the right to free and fair elections. He will remind American listeners that because of this oppression, Singaporean workers don't have a voice and are constantly exploited.

He will call on the US to deal with Singapore on the basis of equality where America's political and business leaders don't collaborate with the Singapore Government on trade at the expense of democracy and human rights.

Such an approach only allows and even encourages the PAP to continue its exploitation of Singaporeans where wages are depressed while the cost of living continues to rise. Elderly Singaporeans are also forced to work for long hours and on wages that one would not even think of paying a start-up apprentice.

Among some of the stations that Dr Chee will be doing is Talk Radio News, American Urban Radio Network, and Head On Radio Network. The programmes on these networks are also broadcast by other stations throughout the US.

While TiLik conducts interviews here, Chee gives interviews there. Everytime, I think that SDP has turned around, they turn right back. Looks like no change from the day he took over SDP.

I can see the neighbourhood Ah Soh, the idealistic student at NUS, the concerned HDB heartlander, the politically enlightened elder and those democratically inclined attempting to follow the storm that will emerge from Ron's show (son of a dead president milking his father's name) and changing the course of Singapore intended history.

An excellent move by Dr.Chee...Why?..Because the US public perception of any country and it's ruler matters..Ask LKY and he will tell you.Why he camped in US for weeks just to get an audition from Obama..and to publicly declare that US presence is vital for Asia which aroused the anger of China's netizens...

LKY had always played this game to the super powers;whether they be Great Britain,US ---even USSR and lately China---"Hey! we are with you!" mantras...So the public perception of its general public is that of a good guy coming over to pay tributes..Very much akin to vessell states kowtowing to imperial power in history.

I mean most people are trying to convince other people that the PAP is not Singapore and the Singapore is not the PAP and here is a message or an impression to the contrary.

Singaporeans are not that different from people from less democratic countries which I have met. The innate human reaction is to be proud of their country despite the flaws and to defend their country to the core. I don't think it's in the Pap's nature to back down from a challenge,. remember what happen when he was just using a loudhailer? Now he's going on national radio network in a foreign country with his shenanigans, don't see how the Papies can allow this.

Dr Chee is no fool, by any stretch of the imagination! His intellect, eloquence and delivery, going by his repeated appearances in court will stand him in good stead while doing his sparring rounds in the USA. However one has to agree that objectively speaking, he may well be doing more harm than good to himself and to his beloved SDP. It's a question of image. No doubt he's a driven man but his detractors will say that he is one embittered traitor and a sore loser to boot. As for me, I'll say that while his ideas/ideology (i.e.theory) is good, the implementation/tactics (practical) leaves much to be desired.
The results or rather the lack thereof speak for itself! :(
