A man and five of his friends are alleged to have assaulted his brother-in-law after seeing him with another woman on a motorcycle in front of a restaurant at Jalan Wong Ah Jang here on Tuesday. They were said to have dragged him to the roadside before punching him and hitting him with helmets.
State CID liasion officer Asst Supt Noor Asyikin Shamsuri said the incident happened at about 2pm when the 29-year-old victim and the woman, 36, were talking while seated on the motorcycle. "They were suddenly approached by six men including the brother-in-law. "One of them then took the keys to the motorcycle before assaulting the victim," she said, adding that the woman, who managed to escape, lodged a report at the nearest police station.
After lodging the report, the woman returned to the place but found the man and motorcycle missing. "She then called the man who told her that he was already in Kemaman, Terengganu, his wife's hometown," ASP Noor Asyikin said. Initial investigations showed that the victim's wife was in her third trimester of pregnancy and they were in the process of getting a divorce, she said.
