when industrialization is in progress, engineering is a fantastic career; just like sillypore in her 60s-80s.
today where there are continuous progresses in europe or north america, an engineer's pay can always be higher than many professions like bankers or lawyers there!
tiongkok's industrialization was replaced by technocracies hence engineers turned bosses are very common there
but here in this silly island where no investors are keen anymore - look at tuas - a ghost state for past 10-15yrs where global mncs moved to neighborings like jb, indon!
its in fact an embarrassing/shameful failure when so-called numbor 1 harbor was decided to move into tuas by sifatloong
there's no place for engineering in this island anymore, just look at ntu's intake & output
engineers here are just in the wrong place, wrong time, wrong country - in short, totally wrong move here!

I thought it is caused by govt transforming our economy to be more on service industry, it kills all the manufacturing and investors move to other countries. As a result, Engineers are not in demand and salary getting lower. Unlike, 70s and 80s, most all the brightest students opted for Electronic and Mechanical engineering. Now, students in low GPA scores are accepted by uni to take engineering course (except aerospace engineering), as they are not able to take up other courses.
Under CAQ Loong he has no vision but always looking to copycat 5 eye shifting sands economy.... 5 eye say say take Indians no talents for rent seeking economy he follows line, hook and sinkers...
Have seen some engineers become housing agents .No choice. Limited opportunities in Red Dot.
