<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->Damascus - Foreign Minister George Yeo, who is on a five-day visit to Syria, made a day trip to the ancient city of Aleppo last Friday.
The trip was at the invitation of the Grand Mufti of Syria, Sheikh Dr Ahmad Bader Eddin Hassoun, whom Mr Yeo had met in Singapore in May, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement said yesterday.
Mr Yeo addressed the congregation at the Masjid Ar-Rawdah Shariff following the Grand Mufti's Friday sermon. He also later addressed the congregation at the Armenian Catholic Church in Aleppo.
The minister is visiting Syria at the invitation of Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moualem till tomorrow. It is the first high-level visit by a Singaporean leader to Syria since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in May last year.
Tomorrow, Mr Yeo will proceed to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, for the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, to be held till Thursday.
