The Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) broke a new record to hit 321 at 10pm
today (19 Jun):
It is currently in the 301-400 “Hazardous” level. At the “Hazardous” level,
there will be early onset of certain diseases in addition to significant
aggravation of symptoms in susceptible persons and decreased exercise tolerance
in healthy persons.
This is the worst reading ever in Singapore. The last peak was 226, in 1997,
16 years ago. This record was broken at 9pm today at 290. Now, it is a new
record at 321.
Both Dr Balakrishnan and Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam spoke to their
Indonesian counterparts yesterday to urge them to take tougher action against
companies responsible for the illegal burning.
