'Maybe one day, if there are no longer any single-member constituencies in Singapore, I will protest. But can political issues engage Singaporeans' hearts and minds, when their stomachs are kept well-fed and the standard of living remains high?' -

Singapore People's Party chairman Sin Kek Tong, who had been a regular speaker when speeches were first allowed at Speakers' Corner

Do you agree?

No. so long as we can buy 3G iphones, why would Singaporeans care?

Yep i agree. We enjoy good life here, who cares what party holds the government.

What makes you believe it will always be so? Have life been good to you all your life? If yes, then you are a real lucky guy. If not, try to remember something call 'a rainy day' though I think it's too late to start taking an interest in something call history.

maybe some issues can but i doubt so.
most of us will be too busy to think about daily living expenses, how to faster finish those loans like HDB,car and so on.
no matter who is the government,we still have to fill our stomach and carry on living, pay those taxes,GST and other things.

But the father-son-and-daughter-in-law gang of leeches is squandering billions and billions of taxpayers' money to rescue fraudulent, sinking financial institutions in the West as if there is no tomorrow.

next question:

are sinkie well-fed and the standard of living remains high?

How come still no protest.

Utility Maximisation. Human Rights canoot increase one's utility immediately. iphones can.

we are probably more concern about our daily living stuff.
and with some limited free time, try to relax and enjoy it.
political issues are for those that have a lot of times and cash to spare.
it is their past-time and game.

Spend money--get iphone--satisfaction

Protest--Govt fall--new but weka government takes control--no iphones--no satisfaction

Protest--Arrested--Jail (criminal record)--unable to buy iphone--no satisfaction

Political issues must be fair and transparent in order to engage Singaporean. Since our govt lack the above and has no accountability and constantly threaten with the use of law under their control, where else can Singaporean find decent engagement with this high-handed politicians? STTA saga speaks volumne.

I once said " Communism is the alternative to despair"

Communism is dead........because there is no despair over basic needs in Singapore. Singaporeans are ruled by their stomachs, not hearts and minds.....
