The driver will fetch the 'soldier' to work everyday, at office hours, whereas the lesser mortal soldiers will have to live in-camp, travel by the only slow turtle bus service in that part of the world, & MRT was a dream. Driver, will remain in guardroom , have meals etc there & drive 'soldier' home, every day.

its revisionist history being wrote. The overall commander of the Sentosa Cable car rescue ops was Failip Yeo. He was Defence Perm Sec at that time. Gay loong was Colonel at that time and some how claimed the credit. It was a miracle that they managed to hit on the right rescue plan. Gay Loong at first wanted to have commandoes from 1st Battalion crawl out on the cable in the pitch darkness and high winds to those trapped cable cars, and then some how lower the occupants to safety. Not taking into account the fact that extra weight of men and equipment on the damaged cables might just send the whole lot including the commandoes into the water. It was a really hair brained idea. And if this idea was to have any chance of success, the Chief Commando Officer (also same rank of Colonel) should have been in charge. In any case, it was luck the Aussie Lt Ledger happened to be in zikapore training RSAF crew on SAR techniques with their new Bell 212. And he took the job, knowing the conditions and saved all 13 people that day. Lucky for Failip Yeo too. If the rescue had been a disaster, he would have taken the fall. But since it was a success, gay loong takes the credit. how u like PAP history?
