Corey Yuen, John Woo etc made it to Hollywood even shows like departed also bought by Hollywood.
Even Taiwan managed to produce a world class director like Lee Ang.....

Yes, HK directors have made their mark on the world, from Lee Han Hsiang to Ann Hui to John Woo to Johnnie To to Wong Kar Wai (Time magazine called him the world's most romantic director) to Peter Chan to Andrew Lau, etc. Quentin Tarantino is a great fan of Johnnie To and John Woo. (Many western directors liked the avant-garde groundbreaking style of HK's action film directors, who were decidedly original and departed from western models in their depiction of violence and crime.)

The top action choreographers of all time are all HKers: Yuen Wo Ping, Corey Yuen, Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan, Lau Kar Leung ...

Another little-known fact is that HK has the world's 2 best post-production studios outside the US.

I find Hongkong's movies and TVB dramas mostly boring. I watch those TVB dramas promotion clips on Starhub TV, it's always the same lead actors and old faces, and it's always the same recycled story themes, and they seem so dull and boring. think TVB' dramas standard has heavily declined from its high standard of the 80s and 90s.

Agree that TVB serials have come down from the '80s and '90s. There are some gems though, like Triumph in the Skies, War and Beauty, Gem of Life. Also some of the Republican-era period dramas like The Last Steep Ascent and No Regrets are very good but not widely publicized. Scripts are still well-written, but some of the plots are getting predictable. Their short series and comedies are still very good though.

Although I'll give them full marks for packaging and hard-work, I am not impressed with the creativity level of koreans. They tend to stick to one formula of success and drill it to death.. For example K pop songs are all contain catchy tunes and English sentences. From Nobody ro Gangnam style etc etc. Just like manufacturing.

there are no decent actors or directors in sinkieland as no talent. period. even Xie shaoguang is a malaysian. Jack neo is just a talentless director producing crap movies. nobody in HK or taiwan or even malaysia respect or heard of him. even the MSM is just full of sh!ts, always painting a positive picture of local movies and pseudo talents. Even Malaysia have James Wan (a sarawakian) who is now the hottest director in hollywood. noticed the local press always do not mention it or just avoid the topic despite him producing critically acclaimed horror movies in past 5 years!!! compared to jack neo who is really pathetic......... same for fann wong, and all the mediacorpse artiste. can't tell whether they are dead or alive when I see them on TV or film. even malaysia have Michelle yeo. same for the arts and design sector who have truly world class Jimmy Choo and Zang Toi. I can see that Korea is adopting the same formula. If Lee Young Ae was born 20 years later, she would not have been given the role of "Dae Jang Geum". It would have gone to some K-Pop singer. Likewise, Bae Yong Jun would have also lost his role in Winter Sonata to some K-Pop pretty boy.

The market belongs to the youth, and it seems this generation of youngsters and even aunties care less about acting skills. For guys, if you're tall, all you need is a fashionable haircut, and you're in the showbiz. For most Korean guys are not handsome, to be honest. It's all about packaging.
