It is not a question if the people could choose to board a train or not rather should Ms Saw continue to manage SMRT or not. Passengers are simply the customers of SMRT and they should be treated with respect. When they have displeasure in matter regarding the SMRT, even if it is the most trivial of matters, it is the responsibility of a good CEO to win the heart and mind of commuters.
However she has chosen to deflects genuine feedback as nonsensical. She as the pinnacle of SMRT management will bring an undesirable culture to the whole SMRT business philosophy. The rest of the people working in SMRT will take her cue that commuters can choose to use SMRT service or not and their grievances are mere hysterics.
The whole organization will feel that they have the most adequate functioning system in place and improvement is not a necessity anymore. This will ruin the organization in the long term. Hence she should be replaced, moreover she also did not do a good job in securing the SMRT causing severe security lapses and disgraced SMRT to no end.
The quality of service she dished out for her position as a CEO is inferior, SMRT board of directors should consider removing her to avoid backslash from commuters. The government also want her head rolling because she has implicated the government with her conspicuous incompetency.

Take the bus - may be better than MRT
- cheaper
surely can board and have seat if take from interchange or near interchange
can read, surf or do some work
more relaxing ride as have view, instead of just people all around you

Thus, no need to be squeezed in MRT, and see packed trains that you cannot board, because they are full during peak hours

As to the longer time that it may take to get to your destination, view it as more time to relax before and after work

Well.... the last 2 CEOs before her didn't. The very 1st CEO was from engineering and he did a pretty good job in keeping the system running smoothly. The 2nd CEO was from the military and he pretty well did what the military do by making back up plans for whatever hicups that come along the way. Under the Ret Admiral you can be sure that there are away enough manpower for the job and after any screwups there would be follow by a new ops manual telling you what shold be done if that screwup happens again. The 3rd and present CEO came from sales hence you see the present results

Absolutely. The SMRT board of directors will sack the CEO only if she screws up and sends the share price to hell. But we all know public transport companies like SMRT and SBS are monopolies so their share prices will never crash. ie, her job will always be safe. The overall regulator role falls on LTA's Pubic Transport Council.

Unfortunately our PTC only does 2 things: rubberstamping fare increments and slapping fines on operators after breakdowns. Passenger safety and comfort all not on their mind. It's a joke.

With mass privatisation of state functions in the last 10 years, the lack of real independent regulators will continue to screw the common man. The same is happening in our telco industry.
